The fun part of the "A.I." hype cycle is watching it slowly dawn on businesses that none of it's true, and they're gonna need those people they aren't hiring and/or training after all.

I'm not a Mozilla insider or anything but I took a look at their bylaws and afaict they have a self-perpetuating board, which means they're not formally accountable to anyone.

I prefer a member elected board (like the PSF has). It's hard for leadership to stray too far from member values when they're elected by members.

I know too many self-perpetuating boards who destroyed what they were supposed to be safeguarding, or even enabled abuse.

Governance matters.

I'm really glad I'm freelance these days. The last boss I had is now well into "AI" so it's likely I would quickly argue myself out of a job if I were still working for him.

i think a lot of my annoyance with a lot of USian leftists, especially non anarchist ones, is that they get so bogged down into campism or the idea that states that self identify as leftist are actually leftist or cannot do any wrong, that they end up westsplaining to me how china doesn't openly persecute uyghur and kazakh people in xinjiang, or that ussr wasn't a colonialist power.

there's just this prevalent demonization of any leftist politics that is so pervasive in western media and discussions that people end up overcompensating for it by trying to shut down any valid cricitism as me being a secret liberal capitalist fbi agent fifth column or something lmao

they could have studied us and consulted us, respected our culture, and maybe tried to develop a communist industrial framework that works within that society. but instead they declared it backwards and inefficient, and didn't provide us with any means for transitioning into sedentary industry, expecting us to grow grains and feed cattle in steppes and deserts with nothing but power of believing in comrade stalin, i guess. you can look up how that ended.

like, if you know anything about kazakh history, you'd know that when soviet russians came here, they set their foot in lands of people that lived fundamentally differently from the way they did. they were sedentary, we were nomads. our agriculture depended on that lifestyle. we lived like that for centuries before they came.
