Netherlands Institute for Human Rights, the non-discrimination authority: The Tax Authority is guilty of indirect discrimination in the childcare benefits affair. This emerges from the first three cases of parents investigated by the Institute and tested against the General Equal Treatment Act. The verdict is three times: prohibited indirect discrimination on grounds of ethnicity. mensenrechten.nl/actueel/nieuw #discrimination #bias #law #politics #netherlands

Wow. De 'nieuwe' achtbaan van Hellendoorn is blijkbaar zo'n tweedehands Reverchon-kermisbaantje. Ik kan maar moeilijk begrijpen dat ze daar in deze tijd nog geld aan uit durven te geven...

Reminder: when someone (eg. landlord, company, employer, whatever) tells you that a contract change or renewal is 'needed', always approach it critically and determine what exactly they mean with "needed".

Often what they actually mean is that *they* need the change, not that *you* need the change.

[job interview voice] yes, I’m very personable. I work well with people, great communicator

The thing about aggressive cyclists is that they are absolutely a problem, but they become more of a problem the less bike infrastructure there is, because a) that's the only way to survive among cars, and b) the situation self-selects for those people, as non-aggressive cyclists would not last for very long.

So counterintuitively, to have less issues with aggressive cyclists, you need more cycling infrastructure -> more overall cyclists. Not even *less* of them, like people often claim.

(Inspired by, but *not* a subtoot of, a toot I ran across today)

The good: none of my pants are too small for me anymore

The bad: all of them are now too big

One of my favourite (and oh so simple) hacker tricks is to abuse JSON support in APIs and pass TRUE instead of the actual API key. If the code does loose comparison, you don't need the key! 😎 😈 🍿

(This is mostly a complaint about people elsewhere. Most of my interactions on here are quite good. But there's certain communities that are absolutely full of the strawman-constructing type.)

And yes, the people who show that they can deal with nuance, continue to get nuanced takes rather than absolute ones. So if you keep getting absolute takes from me, that should tell you something about the way you communicate and argue

And yes these are usually the same people even if they often believe that they're not

"Stop speaking in such absolute terms all the time!"

Maybe I wouldn't have to speak in absolute terms if people ever actually took the nuance seriously, instead of taking it as an invitation to construct a strawman

i wish posts raising awareness of the severity of climate change did anything for me personally besides raising the severity of my anxiety levels
