I took my disabled daughter to one of her clubs yesterday afternoon. We were the only people masked there. As we arrived some of the young adults approached us and one said you don’t need to wear masks now, and I replied well we do. She asked why. And I said because we are vulnerable. And a lot of people are getting sick at the moment. And I explained that if I get sick, I can’t stay in bed and watch Netflix, I have to keep looking after my daughter, and how that wasn’t safe for either of us.

People have talked about the idea that a flood of Unity developers are going to judge Godot quickly and harshly for not being Unity But Free and I'm sure that will happen, but I think a great deal of developers are actually gonna be surprised at how much they enjoy Godot, even if they conclude that they can't use it. I think the first impressions, especially in Godot 4, are pretty friendly and intuitive, and the whole engine does have a sense of being "simpler and more sensible" than Unity.

Some people here need to understand that racism is primarily systemic. While there are individual aspects to it (yes, what your uncle said IS racist), that just not using slurs or being a "good person" doesn't mean you're not actively complicit in racism by reifying racist tropes that these systems rely on to keep functioning.

Everything exists within a context, and nothing happens in a vacuum.

Even if you "didn't mean it like that", it's still perceived that way and still lends power to systemic racism.

Yeah, it's tiring to constantly be aware of the impact your words have. Suck it up, sunshine.

This is what we mean by "doing the work". But no matter how tired you are, I guarantee it's literally nothing compared to the tiredness felt by those people who exist under that racist system.

It never ends. It needs to be done. Stop complaining and just get on with it and stop crying about it.

Ok so I think that when you can feel yourself gearing up to a rant, a real righteous hill you want to die on, it’s important to consider the absolute logical extremity of the argument you’re making and just hold that in your mind while you satisfyingly dash strawmen to pieces with your sabre wit. Give yourself precisely as much respect as that conclusion deserves; let it temper your ego.

If your religion requires you to make sacrifices to follow its precepts - like, say quit a job that wants you to do something your religion objects to - fine, I'll defend your right to practice that religion.

If your religion requires other people to make sacrifices to satisfy your lust for power over them - like banning books or making birth control illegal - then fuck you and your "religion" to the nether regions of the planet.

Your beliefs should not make other people suffer.
