I've mentioned this but I'm gonna make a real post.

If you are setting up Windows 11, select "English (World)" as your language (English Europe also works), and you will have NONE of the third party bloatware installed.

No Candy Crush, no Netflix, just the first party apps

Please do share this info with anyone who may be setting up Windows soon

Once libraries are nonexistent any modern fascist movement wouldn't even have to burn books, but flick one switch and they'd be remotely deleted from your Amazon Kindle or similar digital “library”.

Capitalists are already building the infrastructure to do this through DRM, so stop believing tech is apolitical - the defunding of libraries and paywalling of information are all part of this. :trantifa:

I think Roald Dahl thought Willy Wonka was good and unions are bad and the Oompa Loompa shit was fine, like I think he just wasn't a good guy. Sometimes I see people talk about how they could make a version where Wonka is the bad guy and they talk about it like that's not a subversion like it's within the creator's vision for the story and I think that's silly

also why does Baldur's Gate 3, a game with all player-sexual romance characters, not allow polyamory? It would literally be less work to just not have relationships influence each other, and it would be the same amount of work to have minimal dialogue acknowledging polyamory as to have minimal dialogue disallowing it

So tired of people calling others "hypocrites" for doing the same thing but for different reasons

Like, you know, the reasons *do* actually matter for whether something is bad or not

@riley It's been said before, but libraries would be considered impossible to set up if they didn't already exist today

@joepie91 "cop supporter" is very mild considering it was straight up

"we gave a cop a job and then let him fantasize about (invasive iirc) surveillance tech on our platform"

A periodic reminder that the Raspberry Pi folks are cop supporters

@mbonsma “If you can’t afford a sidewalk, you can’t afford a road” is my own coinage that I’m unreasonably fond of

Happy to announce that I'm collaborating with NESdev veterans on a proper WonderSwan reference wiki, in order to unify the console's documentation. The wiki is provided under a public domain CC0 license, so you can use it without worries!

Personally I don't think Valve or Epic Games or EA should be selling games on their respective storefronts with known actively exploited vulnerabilities risking user safety

Some autistic people find making phone calls extremely stressful and unpleasant and will avoid them at all costs.

Please don’t try and force your communication preferences on others.

So it seems there are a lot of CAMRip versions of Barbie out there where the pirates now put ads inside the pirated piss-poor copies. This baffles me. People who pirate do want to avoid ads, and more importantly, who would pay the pirates to do that? Can only be shifty.

I think the latest Tom Scott video is a pretty big deal, in a positive way, for reasons entirely unrelated to the subject matter of the video.

Why? Because of the "under a system of capitalism, ..." clause here: youtu.be/_G2Q1qsoGEU?t=212

While it undoubtedly will not be *the* first case of this, it's the first time that I've seen a video on a channel that is not explicitly leftist, acknowledge that the circumstances are a result of capitalism, rather than something that Just Happens.

And I think this is a crucially important indicator for anti-capitalist progress: do people recognize *and acknowledge* the role that capitalism plays in their lives? Is this a thing that can just be mentioned as a passing remark when explaining something? Has it become normalized to call out the cause by its name?

And with this, the answer to that has come quite a bit closer to "yes".

Does anyone have a re-Markable eInk tablet? I just found out about them and they look amazing. I don't really need one, but if I could use it as an eBook reader I think I could justify the cost. Does anyone have any experience with it? Does it work well as an eBook reader? They say it supports both PDF and ePub formats, but if it doesn't have an app specifically for eBooks or if the UI is janky it might not be a good solution.
