politiek, wooncrisis, pandemie, vertrekkende tweede kamerleden, enz.

Like and boost this toot if you think that either catgirls are adorable and need more head pats UwU or that people are morally justified in destroying the private jets and yachts of billionaires

Question: does anyone have a good explanation I can reference that explains why/how pepe imagery is fascist? :boost_requested:

(I know why it is myself, so no ad-hoc explanations please; I'm looking for an article or something that I can link someone else to, without needing to write it myself, I am low on spoons)

Y'know what I'm surprised isn't a more common acronym? "nntr" for "no need to respond".
You could just put "nntr" at the end of any message to indicate that you're just pinging the other person, not necessarily looking to start a conversation.

bringing the american IT sector to a halt by passing a city bylaw in Ashburn VA that all datacenters must put up "no dogs" signs

There will sadly never be a better software name than Nero Burning ROM.

Zoom's current terms of service has two mentions of "machine learning" or "artificial intelligence" (explore.zoom.us/en/terms/) and most discussion I'm seeing about this fact today is referring to the section I'm less concerned about.

Section 10.2 allows Zoom to train AI using "telemetry data, product usage data, diagnostic data, and similar content or data that Zoom collects or generates" which is mildly unnerving, but I'm more concerned about section 10.4 in which you grant Zoom a license to your Customer Content.

Now, any service like Zoom needs you to grant them such a license before they can do things like display your video to the people who you wanted to talk to, so that's normal. But they've carved out rights to use that same license for a bunch of other purposes, including AI training, which they've lumped in with marketing and product development. And I don't see any exceptions even for privacy or protected health information.

So I am not a lawyer but I'm definitely going to ask one some questions.

thinking about this right now… can someone familiar with the firefish/*key codebase please, pretty please, disable animations on the prefers-reduced-motion: reduce media query? like your animations are cool and all, but My Brain Can’t Handle Them!!

rapid shitposting is the human equivalent of cat zoomies

"Tech experts are starting to doubt that ChatGPT and A.I. ‘hallucinations’ will ever go away: ‘This isn’t fixable’"

whoa no shit sherlock it's a statistical model that composes answers that are statistically probable, not factual. it's almost like all it does is put a bunch of words that look like an answer next to each other and has zero grasp of what a fact even is conceptually

The falkirk wheel has to be one of the top pieces of irl infrastructure that look like i messed something up in simcity

Stanford has perfected the create the problem and make money from the problem first, then pitch the “solution” and make money from that too while simultaneously being the problem approach.

Is there a word for when the villain is right, but then the writers make the villain do a genocide or something indefensible so that the hero can be right to defeat them?

Animal photo 009: rainbow beetle

Animal of the day (009)

This very Pride-friendly insect is a Rainbow Stag Beetle, and it is endemic to Australia and New Guinea. It has gained popularity in the pet trade thanks to its shiny metallic colors, giving it the appearance of being carved from gold, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires. The larval stage goes through three distinct instars and lasts about three years, after which it matures into an adult beetle that will live for another 12 to 18 months. Unfortunately, it loses all of its shiny colors and turns dark brown after passing, making it a poor candidate for a preserved display specimen.

There are a lot of Linux users on Fedi for the same reason you see a lot of vegans at local fruit stands or a lot of anarchists at Food Not Bombs.

Federated social media and free desktops share a common political framework.

it's a myth that tenants create maintenance costs. anyone living in a space creates maintenance needs. that's called wear and tear. there are also some kinds of maintenance that happen even if no one is living there, like roof repair or replacing a furnace.

owning property means needing to cover the costs of the property, whether you personally live there or not.

so landlords are really only giving up one thing, which is their own ability to stay in the property. many of them don't even want to stay in their properties anyway. so why do they have the property at all?
