Has anyone made a lithium cell "emulator" circuit?

i.e. something that can be swapped in, for devices that refuse to operate without a real battery present - with the ability to pretend to have a real capacity of a certain number of mAH, but ultimately backed by an external power source

ticketing meme

STOP BUYING TRAIN TICKETS

– Riding the train was never supposed to cost you money
– YEARS of collecting yet NO REAL-WORLD USE FOUND for BahnBonus points
– want to buy a ticket anyway, for a laugh? we had a tool for that: it was called “BAHNSTEIGKARTE”
– “you don't have a valid ticket. you need to pay an Erhöhtes Beförderungsentgelt” – statements dreamt up by the utterly deranged

LOOK at what transport companies have been demanding your Respect for all this time, with all the vending machines we built for them:
(these are REAL tariff plans, printed by REAL tariff unions)

?? ???? ???????

„sorry sir this single-trip ticket is not valid for journeys through the Übergangstarifgebiet”
they have played us for absolute fools

Do I know any screen reader users who have successfully completed advanced math coursework? If so, I would like to meet with you. Boosts requested

Apparently someone already made a build of some SSH server for it, the system itself is just a boring Linux on 32-bit ARM

TIL I can just drop a shell script on the internal storage of my e-reader, and it'll just give me an app launcher icon to run it

I did not realize this thing was so easy to hack on, wtf

Billionaires and oil barons can build up tolerance to guillotines. Here’s how.

Workplaces, USA

Servers, Delivery Drivers, and Other:

Your employer has to make up the difference between your wages with tips and minimum wage, and has to pay their share of taxes on your tips. Always report tips.

Take note of your mileage at the beginning of the year, and keep track of your work vs personal vehicle usage. If your employer doesn't give a wear and tear reimbursement, you can claim it on your taxes.

Your employer cannot take customers running out, accidentally broken, or stolen items out of your paycheck.

You should have a labor law poster up in your workplace that has details like this. If it is missing, your employer is in violation of labor law and needs to be reported.

Similar to the third, your employer cannot make you pay for misprinted or abandoned lottery tickets.

You have the legal right to discuss your wages with your coworkers.

just remembered the time in 2018 when I went into a burrito place in London and saw an internet-connected receipt printer, spitting out random HTTP requests

Why I do not like hanging around liberals anymore

Because they're like oppression lootboxes.

The liberal viewpoint is not one of intersectionality; they might sound very progressive and recognize one or more types of oppression, but do not (wish to) recognize the way these interact, or the structure and patterns that underlie all of them.

This means that it's only a matter of time before I hear them say some extremely shitty and/or bigoted stuff about a topic that they don't recognize as a form of oppression, but I can't know upfront which topic it will be, or when it'll happen.

With my intersectional friends, I could then just point out that it's a form of oppression, and they will take it seriously, introspect, and work (over time) to understand it. Mistakes happen, but they will try to learn. All I need to do, is remind them.

With liberals, however... they do not recognize it as another occurrence of the same thing, and so I am left having to "prove" from whole cloth that yes, it really is a form of oppression, before they are even willing to put in *any* effort to understand the problem.

Every time this happens, it takes hours of my time, and energy that I do not have to spare.

I am already running on fumes most of the time, and I honestly just don't really want to hang around people who put that sort of price on not being shitty.

okay question specifically for #WhitePeople (feels weird to tag that but this question is for you)

if you and your friends are about to go out to eat seafood, which option of the two would you say?

* "are" in parenthesis cause i wouldn't use it in my dialect but the focus is on whether you say crab or crabs.

@CharlioSpaceCadet and i are trying to figure this out. we have no idea, so please enlighten us lol.

queermisia and associated bullshit

Saw someone in a chatroom comment "the pride flag has no purpose, people just pretend that it does", and what do you know, a quick look at their Twitter feed shows they're also an antivaxxer, religious fundamentalist, and general reactionary

Always so predictable

sry I've been away I'm desperately trying to finish writing this novel before three thousand tv writers decide that maybe books are their future

The Fediverse is a wonderful place where honest, hardworking meme farmers, such as myself, can thrive. The truth is that for every one, organic, handmade meme I make; the meme factories owned by brands can make ten more. The Fediverse allows me to make my freshly-baked, chemical-free memes without worrying about McDonald’s down my back.

kink ish, vague

Kink as a method of relational being, of embodying an existence that is different and relative to others, reinforcing the self by creating a context for it. Filling a role that's fit for purpose, not created by non-consensual, external pressures

kink ish, less vague better words

I like being critical, hurtful, domineering, disrespectful, controlling, etc. etc. I don't want to do that to people because it would hurt and diminish them. But, with kink, I can build a context where it's appropriate for me to be those things, where the hurt is prepared for and welcomed.

I also like being soft, nonverbal, affectionate, and other adjectives too embarrassing to write publicly. I don't want to be those things all the time, because it demands effort from people close to me, and they get in the way of things I want to accomplish. But, with kink, those things can be temporary and contained - more importantly, they can be desirable and rewarded.

With play partners and proper negotiation, we can build contexts, separate realities where I can be those things I normally can't, parts of me that normally aren't very welcome or useful.

The Verge keeps using an upside down Twitter bird impaled on an X as the hero image for their stories about the garbage fire, and every single time I'm like "oh is there a new Sonic game coming out?"

It's weird how effective adding weights to cheap gadgets is, as a means to make them feel more robust and premium (that, and getting rid of any rattles)
