Curious if the #media misunderstanding the point of #mastodon will ever end? We’re 8-9 months since the beginning of the bigger migration waves and I’m still constantly seeing “will mastodon ever succeed? Why is mastodon failing?”

We’re watching the media, in real time, have zero idea how to evaluate something unrelated to capitalism. Have we lost all ability to measure something without a quarterly report?

I want to start to organize these and make an effort to refute. Using something like #MisunderstandingMastodon is way too long and sounds like trying to make fetch happen but I like it.

This is increasingly how it feels, when things you "own" digitally become inaccessible, and when shows which are locked in streaming services can get delisted on a whim, disappearing forever.

hey digital artists: do yall know of any good ways to train what i am calling "hand/screen coordination"? i have a drawing tablet but it's not one with a screen on it, so i have trouble using it intuitively because there's a disconnect between what my hand is doing and what that causes the cursor to do

Look, I respect Eugen as a very good developer and system administrator, but as the Geschäftsführer (managing director or chief executive officer) of the charitable Mastodon gGmbH, I don't find him suitable. He is to eager to be popular and forgets the original vision of Mastodon (an ethical alternative for corporate social media). Ethics and morals are politics. So you can't separate that.

I also have very much respect for the other developers, who need to work with Eugen. Especially a shout-out to Claire.

So instead of a fork I would advise Eugen to step down as the 'boss' and give the lead to the community, represented by a small group of people from different disciplines.

I could never prove this, but knowing what I know about PR and crisis communications, it would not surprise me if a trillion-dollar company was just like, “Hey, Mastodon is gaining traction, let’s sell people on the idea that it’s hard to use with a whisper campaign,” and that whisper campaign went viral and shaped the discussion in a way that discouraged Mastodon from being taken seriously.
