So this thing is kinda subversive in how we think about computers and games consoles (and yes the capitalism around them), in that you buy it, you fill it with games, you play the games, and that's it, you're done.

You don't need to buy a new one every couple of years, it doesn't get slower, and there are more excellent games than you could play with all the time in the world. You're done with the buying, find new favourite games.

The most Weird And Cool thing this does is it came with Celeste, for the Pico-8.

The Pico-8 was not a thing. It was never made. It was never even prototyped! But the Game Dad has a Pico-8 emulator.

So what the hell is a Pico-8? As far as I can tell, it's an agreed-upon set of specs for a console that never existed, that people are now making games for?

There are people with socks so high and so striped that they can straight-up LARP a console into semiexistence! ASPIRATIONAL LIFE GOALS

Also, holy heck is this thing crying out for new indie games.

Like, this is so, so much of a better platform for mobile gaming than touchscreen phones. Any game devs working on something that can be played with a d-pad and 4 buttons, get yourself one of these and have a gander at PortMaster, this is a niche thing right now but it's taking off Real Fast.

i despise the argument that adults need to be thoroughly vetted for medical transition because surely, people need to be protected from making such a life-altering decision too quickly, or for the wrong reasons?

they do not, actually. people have the freedom to make an untold number of radical, life-changing decisions with potentially serious consequences at the drop of a hat, and for all the wrong reasons. we call this “being an adult”.

and the process of checking yourself to make sure you’re not making the wrong choices is called “responsibility”.

and every adult has the right to decide for themselves whether to act responsibly or not.

This is why having easily-changed settings with a few variants for different people to use (and switch as needed) should be the default. That's the ramp that everyone can use.

While we're here, can we also talk about the proliferation of the use of terrible (blurry, poorly scaled, grey, etc) webfonts for body text in text-heavy spaces like blogs?
