So today, joepie went to Walibi Belgium and almost got into a fight with one of the security people working there.
I wonder whether it's standard policy to respond to something unsafely-designed breaking off a ride, by ejecting guests from the park, extorting them, and then trying to restrain them - emphasis on "trying", dude was all muscle with no strength and the panic visibly set in once he realized I wasn't falling for his intimidation tactics.
"You need to pay 800 euro to replace it, otherwise we have to call the cops and you will be here for a couple of hours"
And having the fucking gall to claim that I was obviously intentionally breaking it because I pushed down on it. As a kidney patient I need to support myself on my arms to be able to get out safely, asshole. It's not *my* problem that your ride isn't designed correctly, and you're lucky this didn't end with me falling down.
It's a small consolation that mister security guard probably came away from this with more stress than I did; he was clearly not prepared for an apparent weak target to bite back... and the aggression was very much predatory.
I'm physically fine, cops have taken statements (and already concluded from security footage that it was obviously accidental), and I'm back home now. To be continued. I definitely want *at the very least* an apology from Walibi Belgium for the way I've been treated there.

looking for work, sort of, software
(Probably only going to post this once, as I dislike advertising but I do need a place to start)
So I'm a freelancer (mainly for ADHD reasons) doing software-y things, and I'm currently looking for some more clients, because I'm uncomfortable with how few clients I'm currently dependent on for my income.
I've also been wanting to start doing something different that involves less scheduling and aligns better with my disabilities: flat-fee expert support for #Javascript stuff (and probably #NixOS stuff, realistically).
If you know someone (most likely, a small company or team) who might be interested in trialing this, please let me know!
The pitch: you get a flat-fee expert support plan for around 1800 EUR per month (final price TBD), with unlimited tickets for JS/Nix problems, including (especially!) the complicated problems. Much cheaper than hiring an expert full-time for occasional tricky issues, and less hassle than eg. hourly billing of freelancers.
I have 17+ years of experience with web development (including JS), 7 years of experience with Nix/NixOS, and 9+ years of experience with technical writing and teaching. Also a grab-bag of experience with many other (weird) things, the usual ADHD stuff.
All support tickets go through e-mail, and are answered on a best-effort basis (realistically usually same-day, but that's not a hard guarantee). Complexity of the problem doesn't matter, I'll figure it out. If it's outside of those topics, I'll try to answer it to the best of my ability, but no guarantees.
There's no limit to the amount of tickets, but of course it's not going to make sense to create tickets for simple problems, because it'll be faster to just figure it out yourself. That's how I plan to keep this sustainable on my end without having to *actively restrict* the amount of issues.

When activists are "being reasonable" and "going through proper channels", they generally have already (correctly) predicted that it's not going to work anyway, and they are doing it *entirely* for the benefit of convincing the "reasonable people" who "don't want to jump the gun" and "hear out all sides" that they know what they're doing
And I wish that those "reasonable people" would sometimes think about what that implies about their role in the whole thing
And like, no harm done, we all had a good laugh, with the delivery guy remarking "... haven't I been here before with this exact same problem?"
