Which is why it's a good idea to think twice about being and staying friends with bigots, fash, and otherwise toxic/harmful people. Yeah, some believe in teaching and redeeming them through the magic of friendship, but have they not considered the possibility that they themselves may be influenced, too? What makes them so confident the influence only goes one way? It's such a weird level of confidence.

Like elsewhere, the entire political spectrum has moved very far to the right. 25 years ago, Emmanuel Macron would have been considered to be from the hard right (anti-immigration, pro-privatization of public services, etc). He's now the face of French centrism.

Striking & protesting are very important tools. If it wasn't for them, France would probably be in an even worse shape than it currently is. But they are far from enough, and the French model is not necessarily one to elevate.

A lot of Americans, particularly on the left, romanticize France, French activism, and how normalized protesting & striking are in France.

So just to be clear: for the past 30 years, the French left has been losing non-stop. I don't mean just electorally. I mean that labor rights have been dismantled, public institutions are defunded, healthcare is on its way to being privatized & so is higher education, the police state is expanding, and capitalism has reached all parts of life and society.

Talking about cis men is kind of a tightrope because on one hand analyzing them as a class is important. It is important to talk about the kinds of opinions cis men tend to have, the kinds of violence inflicted by cis men. On the other hand, if you start going on about cis men and their "nature" and how theyre all violent and evil then you just morph into a terf

"I don't understand," the knitter said. "You have spaceships, you explore, I don't know, black wormholes or whatever they're called. Why come to me?"
"I do not know how to knit," the alien said. "It fascinates me."
"You know so much more than us."
"Gng. We know different things."

Does anyone know where the term "techno-solutionism" (or "technosolutionism") originated from? Is there an original paper/book or did several writers independently coin the term as an extension of solutionism? Boosts appreciated #AIHype

best day?

Many of the reasons corpo-type tech people complain about fedi are the reasons I like it here. That it's run purely by volunteer hobbyists, the anti-brand culture, the lack of a hard central structure of control, lack of profit objectives, or whatever they mean by "scalability" that I hear spoken about all the time. It's what makes it so charming to be here. I don't know if I have a place here without that.

> #Signal published a blog post on how we were all different and they were trying to adapt to those differences. Signal was for everyone, told the title. Ironically, that very same day, I’ve lost access to my account.

Y'all got any suggestions for a decent set of bluetooth headphones (over the ear please) that are very good at noise canceling, under $100 and will stand up to a goof who would most def sleep in them?

As long as they fit a good build quality and sound and the setup won't make me want to eat it in frustration, I'm good.

Thinking about using some extra funds to get some finally to mainly replace my old set since it's literally falling apart and I want something that I can possibly use with my fire stick and iPad so I can watch tv in peace at night

Just a reminder that the idea of a personal carbon footprint is propaganda invented by British Petroleum (BP) to distract from corporate responsibility for climate change by implying that changes to personal behavior are all we need to prevent global warming.

to clarify it seems to have expired a decade ago so it's not a problem *now*, but it explains why nobody did anything with it in the 3-5 year window where that tech was actually relevant

fucking love software patents

I contacted the bookstore that's under attack this weekend, and this is what they said:

We are looking to center and protect the kids who come to hear Drag Queen Story time. We are a small store so making sure the protest stays outside is very helpful. You can also direct friends who cannot be present in person to our website: sidetrackbooks.com/

Thank you so much for your support!

Washing machine reached it's final destination and enjoys sunset in France 🌇.

#WashingMachineChallenge2023 was :
- two busses :vrs: :vrn:
- five :db: trains
- six changes
- way too many stairs
- 363 km by public transport
- many confused faces

Okay, the bus driver really didn't want me to enter their bus, but finally agreed. Final part of the #WashingMachineChallange2023 journey in a blue :vrn: bus back to France 🇫🇷.
