For those of you following this thread, here, here's a post I just put up on my official author site blog about the situation, this includes a quote of the email I sent them as well as the email they sent me back:

Let me emphasize: THIS WAS THE VERY FIRST RESPONSE TO MY MAIL FROM THEIR TEAM.

None of them, NONE OF THEM, had reached out to me saying they needed proof of my identity. They went straight to "we can't prove who you are and now we're shutting down your account, and also, you can never have an account on our system again".

If this is how Draft2Digital treats its authors, I sure as hell don't WANT an account on their system again.

Interesting article: bryanbraun.com/2022/07/16/scra

"So, no, Scratch isn’t just a programming language. It’s an ecosystem of apps, resources, and community features for giving kids a positive first experience with programming. [...] This recent growth has caused Scratch to break into the Tiobe index's top 20 most popular programming languages."

racism, NL

Oh look, what a surprise, the guys who were arrested for projecting racist slogans onto buildings were involved in a White Lives Matter group

Apparently the bicycle lockers were renovated and derusted, not replaced; they've definitely done a good job then, because I couldn't tell that they weren't new :p

Interestingly, this is apparently part of a concerted plan to deal with traffic jams on the nearby highway - it's good to see that there are still local governments who understand that "widening highways" is not the solution, which unfortunately isn't a given in NL anymore either (thanks neolibs)

NL elections

Excellent, some of the election posters for the local alt-right/fascist party have already been scratched off

I should probably take care of the remainder

Nice, the local train station in Rosmalen seems to be getting upgraded; the bicycle parking has been renovated (including fixing/replacing the very old bicycle lockers, some of which were broken), and new bike parking spaces are being built (stacked racks on one side). Apparently there are plans to upgrade the station itself too, in the near future.

the less polite version

IP is just an extension of private property, and it is an even worse form of rentseeking because it monopolizes something that *isn't even scarce*, and if this did not occur to you and you bought into the propaganda of it "supporting artists" (it doesn't) then you should REALLY pay closer attention to what is going on around you, because this probably isn't the only point where you're dropping the ball

If you consider yourself a leftist and you're in favour of copyright/patents, then I would invite you take a moment and look into who is actually benefiting from it, and what it *actually* does vs. what it claims to do

I really wish there was a culture in free/open source software of actually telling the person who made the thing when you do something good/interesting/cool/weird with it, used it in a workshop/teaching. It's super nice+motivating when I hear about tidal being used on a course or something, but it's generally only by chance.
I guess it's another case of people adopting the at-a-distance customer-supplier relationship of commercial/proprietary software, when free/open source _should_ take a friendlier approach

Billionaires aren’t going to decentralise jack shit. If they were, they’d start by decentralising themselves instead of choosing to remain billionaires.

Don’t fall for it.

@tillianisafox instead of being called a deadname, it should be called a necronym

brb re-branding anarchism as "agile for societies" and radicalizing an entire industry

The fact that so many of us are blaming ourselves for being crushed by a system that cares only about extracting our labor is a testament to how successfully social problems have been relegated to the individual. And how necessary the ideology of individualism is to the destructive machinations of capitalism.

venture capital bullshit

"Sadly, due to low usage, we have taken the difficult decision to close the StrawPoll.me website. We will not be able to provide access to poll data."

VC culture truly is something else...

Bonus: did you know that Fandom Inc. originates from Jimmy Wales, the Wikipedia Guy(tm)?

The way to spot people who don't actually have any useful or good points is if they're constantly talking about getting cancelled but don't spend much time talking about their actual points
