• You can also block their domain. If it's not one of the big servers, you should probably go ahead and use defederation as defense and shut it down.
• When you Report a user you'll be asked to choose which of the server rules were violated.
• Admins will be notified and should take action.
• Find a safe instance.

I just shared a Mastodon toot to a different IM service and my muscle memory "helped" me to remove the tracking parameter that was actually the toot ID 😂​

Remember, people are more willing to bring their whole selves to Mastodon.

For example, you may have initially started following someone for their weird bullshit, but don't be surprised that they also choose to share their much weirder bullshit too.

WOW. Elon Musk just took a swipe at Mastodon, calling it "Masterbatedon" and making fun of the people here.

A man who just spent $44 BILLION USD is afraid of this service. And he should be. There's no way he can make money off of it.

Mastodon has the "Advanced web interface" which looks like the ol' tweetdeck. I don't like the super narrow columns, so I use Stylus (browser extension) to add this little css to make the home column wider:

A bunch of questions about this instance yesterday:
- The performance/down issues were part of @mastohost overall network issue; going to "beefier hardware" would not have solved that one.
- Funding for the instance is not an issue.
- However I might be looking for more moderators soon(ish), since that will become non-trivial amount of work.
- If your social media host is down: go outside! Look at the clouds! Feel free! :P

Seeing posts about how "Mastodon" is so untwitter, with community, conversation and a lack of posts designed to enrage.

There are certainly communities out there that would make your blood boil.

It's the lack of the algorithm deciding what you see to sell "engagement" for ads.

Admins are likely to have blocked entire servers for you. You see who you want, they expose you to things they like.

It's the model that's different, not the content.

It makes a difference.
