So of course I took mental note, and went back a couple weeks later (today) with birthday cookies for her. She was so funny. She looked at her husband and said, "did you tell her it was my birthday?" She had forgotten that she had let the cat out of the bag herself.

I have a cool neighbor (another one), a veteran who walks every day and collects cans and bottles for a veterans charity. We often chat.
A couple of weeks ago he confessed that he had partied too much the night before, because it was his 81st birthday. So the next day I took him some birthday cookies. And met his wife for the first time (she doesn't go walking with him). She told me that she was 15 days younger than him.

Steam just added screen reader support in the latest Big Picture Mode beta. On the Deck. On SteamOS. On Linux.
Not hacked in. Not community-patched. Built-in. From Valve.
There's an accessibility tab. There's a screen reader. There's high-contrast mode, UI scaling, color filters, reduced motion, and more.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but: I need a Steam Deck now.
Accessibility isn’t just coming to gaming — it’s here, and it’s official.
Let’s make some noise so they keep going.

Turns out that strawberries from my own garden, when picked at the right ripeness, taste vastly better than anything I can buy in a supermarket here any time of the year

Edit: Thanks everyone. Several first-hand recs for Unifi, Monoprice, and Digikey (all of which I've dealt with myself, just not for cable).

Original: Can someone recommend a currently reliable source for (non-counterfiet) Cat6 / Cat7 cable? Small quantity; maybe two or three 1000 foot spools. I remember the last time I needed some, this was a like buying a used car.

today in weird deals: consumable item costs £4.60 each. if you buy two, you get £5 off

so of course I paid £4.20 for two??

I want to apologize for spamming the trans hashtag with fun memes, but then I remember that it's currently filled with depressing ass politics, so I'm not going to apologize.

What if it's good to have a little fun sometimes before we get back to fighting transphobia? The transphobia will be there when we're done with our jokes.

"In gesprek gaan?" Ik stel de tuchtraad voor.

Does anyone have a *well-supported* answer on how to deal with used paintbrushes and paint rollers?

I see advice like "don't rinse them under the tap because it pollutes the water" which, fine. But then also "don't use turpentine because it's bad for the environment".

And then ultimately this turns into "treat brushes and rollers as consumable, just throw them away with mixed waste after use" and like, what? That's not great for the environment either!

So what's *actually* the solution here? What is *actually* the least environmentally destructive option? And is there any actual data to support that?

Saw some blog post talking about "lessons from AI programming", and there was a whole section about treating agentic AI like an "intern". The whole point of internships is it's for the *intern's benefit*! It's so the intern gets work experience! An internship shouldn't be synonymous with mindless gruntwork!

...obviously I get that internships are widely abused, and a lot of people treat junior devs poorly. But it’s depressing seeing people just be open about it.

I know I've tooted basically this before, but it's increasing tempting to start a wellness non-scam.

Exactly the style of a wellness/woo scam, but it's fully upfront about being pseudo-science the whole time.

✅ Check out your eye with a microscope, give you a comprehensive report on why each of the colours and patterns is extremely fucking cool
✅ Foot massage where I also tell you that I really hope other parts of your body are feeling better too
✅ Steam. It's just nice.
✅ Clearly labelled sugar pills
✅ Totally normal herbs, just munch whichever takes your fancy or put them on your body. They smell really nice.
✅ Series of tactile, aesthetically pleasing substances including pink salt, charcoal, green clay. Be in their presence, put them on your face, I don't care, they won't do anything other than be fun either way, so you do you.

The reason Texas is part of the USA is that Mexico made slavery illegal.

Remember the Alamo? A lot of white people don't know is that what the "brave" people in the Alamo were fighting for was slavery.

That's also why it took two years after the civil war ended for enforcement of anti-slavery in Texas. (it wasn't because of slow communication, as is told in revisionist histories, it was because white people willfully defied the law).

Freedom is always worth fighting for.

the white feedback loop of ~only giving (mutual aid) to someone you know~ yet never making friends with Black folks because you refuse to put any effort into working on your racism or you just couldnt give a damn to make friends with a Black person ... congrats, you're reinforcing Jim Crow. that's segregation, that's redlining. beyond chattel slavery, this systemic disconnect of cash flow is a big motivation behind the concept of reparations.

all minus 2 Indigenous folks on my mutual aid request list are Black and damn near everyone has been struggling to get their needs met these past few months. white people on here could stand to give a damn. because i watch your white friends' goals get met over and over and quicker than these folks. did you all decide these people just don't deserve help anymore because they keep needing help? (the following sentence contains sarcasm) it's almost as if they're stuck in a shit situation because of a systemic problem!

juneteenth is this week. list link here: weirder.earth/@thief/114695794

(Also, any project where the answer is "there are none" fails this test, because that tells me that people don't accurately *recognize* conflict and therefore have not learned how to deal with it in a healthy way)
