God bless and save you, 8% of Americans who think they can defeat an elephant in a fist fight.

Ecosia is a search engine that plants trees, and then kills those trees by having an "AI" chatbot that is just ChatGPT in a trenchcoat.

One can schedule a Tesla test drive online.

Just posting info for Tesla lovers. I would never suggest people book appointments that will fill up the Tesla calendar and then not show and/or that will make salespeople wait around for nobody.

Waar? @nllgg in Utrecht
Wanneer? Zaterdag 15 maart
Kosten? Geen

De website toont nog de werktitel (systemd-security), maar het onderwerp is breder.

What do you call a group of 1024 catgirls?

A Mbity

Fedi hive mind: board games or card games suitable for a five year old? Ideally collaborative rather than confrontational, requiring skill rather than luck (so the adults have some control over how it's going...). We've got Carcassonne junior and that's a big hit...

If your criticism of "big tech" is merely a result of the unhappiness about the fact that Meta, Google and Microsoft aren't EU-corporations you are missing the point.

There is nothing that indicates that SAP or Deutsche Telekom would hesitate a second at the chance of becoming equally violent and exploitative forces.

The solution to Big Tech isn't EU Big Tech. It's de-commercialisation and democratization of tech.

These were novelty topic surveys, intended to get the name YouGov said in print and on-air.

And yet I think they accidentally revealed something about the cultures which standard political surveys never get at.

Significant parts of the voting public in the US are completely detached from reality, and hold levels of confidence in their own place in the world completely at variance with fact.

This is significantly more pronounced among men.

@aspensmonster i said this in the groupchat a bit ago lol, let's turn "they're coming for the scientists data" into "the scientists make better p2p than we've ever had before out of spite." I ain't just trying to put things on bittorent rn, i'm trying to make bittorrent what it always should have been

the cost of me downloading this bucket one time will be equal to the cost of a raspi + flash drive + plugging it into an unused university ethernet port until the end of time.

just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's bad. the cloud has the appearance of "professionalism" but i guarantee you any random Moana.2016.1080p.BluRay.torrent on the pirate bay is more resiliently archived than any s3 bucket.

what up biorxiv, if you care about the survivability and accessibility of your data... this bucket is 7TB. you could buy one (1) flash drive and one(1) raspberry pi, run qbittorrent, distribute this as torrents, and make this data available for $0.00 to you and to everyone.

It's actually kind of bizarre how a second-hand cargo bike is more expensive than some second-hand cars

I found the serverless infrastructure everybody keeps talking about. Magical.

Honestly Voltron really kind of feels like the engineers at Mack were told "hey, all those ideas you've been wanting to try out for a decade? here's a blank check, go wild"

TIL that one of the launch sections on Voltron in Europa Park not only serves as a block brake, but can recover from a full safety stop by doing a swing launch (whereas normally it would be an accelerated launch), so no manual intervention is needed. Neat!

There's two types of woodworking instructors: "here's the $10k of equipment you need to build a cabinet" and "eh, a butter knife will probably get the job done with enough patience"

hey anyone have recommendations for programming socks that don't break easily? I've been using mysocks but they're so thin they break within a few months of use.
