Hoe vertaal je "amatonormatief" naar het Nederlands, eigenlijk?

have physicists determined yet why it is that when you drop a small item it always, always disappears? even when it had a fairly predictable path & you watched it fall & there was no reason for it to bounce or shoot off in a weird direction or anything

And like, I understand *why* the fork exists, but it doesn't change that this is a completely non-viable requirement that's keeping me from even trying to use Qt with Node...

Every few months I look at nodegui and want to try it out, then am reminded that it uses a fork of Node called Qode which... is 2 years of security updates behind on upstream 😐

Unsurprisingly in light of yesterday's news, Omnivore exports are taking somewhat longer than the advertised 1 hour to be delivered...

I will never understand Quora's increasing tendency to show you everything *except for* the answers to the question that you asked

yesterday it eeped with a surprisingly good view on the rail infrastructure :3

- Patricia, you ancient programmer, how does one get good at programming, please share your wisdom.

*thinks*

Well, you write a lot of bad code, like a hole shitton of bad code, then you maintain it for a few years and then you look at it again and say holy shit, and that’s when you know you’ve gotten better. Rinse and repeat for ever.

please reply to this with either

a) something that you think would make elon musk upset if someone said it to him
b) a thing about elon musk that happened a while back that you feel like everyone else forgot

I'd sure love to pay a tech co-op $25/month to host and sync a knowledge-workers stack including an open-source read-later + Obsidian or equivalent + Zotero + simple blogging with blot or something

Today's screams brought to you by Omnivore (open source) giving its entire hosted userbase two weeks to get their data out before they exuberantly drown themselves in the service of an Andreessen Horowitz-funded AI voice company co-founded by a Palantir person.

(The two weeks' notice went to my spam folder, so I'm grateful someone mentioned it here and I happened to see it.)

So you got a vague interest in what might be a new hobby or something that you need some equipment to do, whaddaya do, you check out the various forums for it right?

Save you some time: find the posts from people new to the thing asking what kinda gear to buy, and check the replies. See how long it takes before someone gives the only correct answer

🐿 Hey I'm new to this, what kinda badger comb should I get?
->🐁 BrushBoi 2000. Anything less is trash. You'll waste your money.
-> 🦊 BrushBoi 6000 costs a couple grand but it's well worth it
-> 🐺 Ignore these guys, DapperLad makes WAY better badger brushes
-> 🦌 TBH this is an expensive hobby and most people bail real quick, just get a cheap one off Amazon, it'll suck but you're probably not gonna stick around anyway
-> 🐧 Hi, welcome to the hobby! I'd start by checking the secondhand markets, badger brushes haven't really changed much in the last 30-odd years and you can spend the same money on a really good Tangle-B-Gon from the 90's or on a brand new cheap one that won't be nearly as good but will still basically get the job done. Good luck and happy brushing, show us what you got when you find a deal!

This forum has a Shite Index of 4, that is four awful responses before the only correct answer

So, with botsin.space shutting down, what's the next best place for bots to live on Fedi?

(Though for their in-person events, like that VR tour of the potential new train interiors, they really need to fix their compensation - a second-class off-peak ticket is really kind of a shitty compensation when you're asking people to sort out their own transport to get there... you're a train company FFS, could you really not afford to pay for the tickets of your survey panel???)

Sidenote, if you're in NL, and you're a rail nerd, sign up for the survey panel! Details about unreleased/non-final plans for the railways show up there with some regularity

Ok so @techwolf12 and I were talking about blu-ray, and we suddenly found out about the existence of "BD-Live".
Basically as far as we can find, this was a feature that certain blu-ray discs had that allowed for additional online features to be provided.

Some examples I can find online are honestly quite extreme, like having a chatroom during the movie? What?

I'm super intrigued but can't seem to find /anything/ about this standard or what options it had.

Also?? Does this mean you can run code on your blu-ray player through this??? Can you boot linux? Do we have blu-ray linux?

So many questions!!
Anyone that knows more about this on here, or can link us to a bit more technical specification of this feature?
