computers under $200 for low-income folks in the US
PCs for People is having their biggest sale of the year this weekend, with refurbished laptops for $100-175 and refurb desktop PCs for $85-150 (free shipping unless you're in AK/HI/PR or have a PO Box).
To purchase from them, you'll need to provide proof that you're "currently participating in a government-based assistance program or have a qualifying household income (less than 200% of federal poverty guidelines or 60% of area median income)."
I'd spotted this rather striking diagonal track yesterday, but I couldn't get it the way I wanted with the lenses I had with me. Today I returned with my 200 mm Pentacon telephoto, and after a couple of tries (that's what this whole thing was about, right?) I got this shot.
IME most people blame themselves when the software they use is being genuinely awful, buggy, and badly made in such a way as to directly cause misery and lost work.
If they didn’t, then most devs working at Microsoft, Google, Apple, or Adobe would need a protective detail 24/7 and every week we’d be hearing news of yet another engineer murdered by an enraged user.
People have no idea just how badly we’re fucking up their lives. They just think they’re bad at computers.
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate y'all here.
One of my posts received a surprise retweet on Twitter yesterday, and it gained me some attention.
Nothing bad happened, but nearly every account which interacted with or followed me was either a blank profile or a chaser / person who fetishises trans people in an objectifying way.
Meanwhile nearly everybody I've had the pleasure of interacting with here has seemed like an actual person who I could see myself being friends with, not an anonymous manifestation of the concept of horny.
So, thanks for that!
Gotta do *something* when it's impossible to find 'proper' space for it... pretty excited to see where this goes, and whether it's a model that could be easily replicated on a budget elsewhere.
I would really like to see a return of freeshops as a widespread concept, it feels like there are not very many left, even though they've become more important than ever.
The plan: a removable tent construction attached to the front of my garage, spanning over the driveway, that can be set up every Saturday and keeps out any rain. The shop space will then span half my garage and most of my driveway, every Saturday.
All the cabinets will be on wheels; they will be compacted into the garage part of the shop space the rest of the week, and I will wheel them out and turn them into a 'corridor' on Saturdays.
Should also be relatively COVID-safe; there will be some side walls to keep out rain, but there should be enough 'open wall' for decent ventilation
🥳 Ik heb instemming van de buren, dus als alles volgens plan gaat, heb ik binnenkort een weggeefwinkel vanuit m'n garage
Absolutely wild that just over the course of my lifetime so far, the share of income going to the bottom 50% of the US income distribution has dropped from 20% to 12%, while income going to the top 1% of the income distribution has risen from 11% to 20%.
In 2015 dollars, the average income per adult of the bottom 50% of the US has stayed $15K/year for more than 40 years, but the average income of the top 1% has increased from $400K to $1.3M/yr per adult.
annoying behaviour sometimes found in community tech support channels, subtooting a rando, generic second person
reading and analysing your non-compiling Rust code: gladly offered free of charge

offering suggestions for how to restructure things so that it does work: gladly offered free of charge
tutoring on the relevant concepts and theory so that you come away with a better understanding and are less likely to make this sort of mistake in the future: gladly offered free of charge
listening to you complain extensively about how Rust is bad and you dislike it and would rather be using something that didn't have lifetimes: starting at $10/hr (30min minimum), contact to receive a quote
I'm a totally blind software tester with previous testing experience. I know there are many of you in the #Fedivers working on many cool projects, I'd love to test them for accessibility if you're looking for an accessibility tester or any accessibility consultancy please get in touch :-) if everyone could repost this, that would be great thanks very much :-) #a11y #Blind #Accessibility
very obvious exercise tactic
if you too hate embodied existence
and dislike the extent to which cardio rubs it in your face
all of the same things that you've ever found overriding your body's natural signals to sleep are excellent to distract from the unpleasant combination of exercise and existing in a corporeal form
(e.g., mine: short-form video, slay the spire)
i wish i'd figured this out before the age of thirty, but here we are
Question for a project I am developing; music makers only:
do you know any computer programming / scripting language, if so which ones?
*Edit:* I have gotten way more and varied responses than I expected. If you would like to help please fill in this 4 question questionnaire https://s.surveyplanet.com/k6r85nz1
I've picked a platform that won't steal your data, and this way I can build a better idea of what experience levels people have in music and programming.
Boosts appreciated.
In the process of moving to @joepie91. This account will stay active for the foreseeable future! But please also follow the other one.

- No alt text (request) = no boost.
- Boosts OK for all boostable posts.
- DMs are open.
- Flirting welcome, but be explicit if you want something out of it!
- The devil doesn't need an advocate; no combative arguing in my mentions.
Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
