I feel like a lot of queer people forget that even DIY hrt is not available to everybody. especially to non-white folks since we can get in trouble with the law much frequently or receive harsher punishments

sillyness, nonsense and childish humor are extremely good and important, actually

how do you get conservative (most) academics to see the problems with twitter as being related to the problems with our publishing systems? that passivity in the face of the enclosure of the means of organizing information only makes us all weaker, our jobs more tenuous - the very reasons we cling to the old system

so many fucking people were taking pics of the steamship we were on yesterday as it passed lmao

i waved to a buncha em and usually got waved back to 😂

i love that little human moment, like "hey! i don't know you and you don't know me and we have no way of directly communicating, but i'm gonna say hello with my hands because why the fuck not it makes me happy"

ADHD: When your brain has such a high clock rate that memory corruption occurs

every now and then we find something else that's going to end society as we know it. Y2k, AI, fuckin killer bees. They get a lot of media attention and seem silly later.

I think it's all just based on how we all realize this shit is fragile and unsustainable. But the real reasons why are not very exciting

When people claim that informally and community organized things "don't scale", I sometimes think about how the massively-scaled tech platform Github has been unable to handle the scale of the community-organized nixpkgs project... *more than once*

I have apparently somehow posted a comment to a Github repo that only I can see, and nobody else can

I was one of only 2 women on a hike with ~7 men. We came across a big giant rock (~10 m high). Who climbed up it? Forget your old fashioned gender steryotypes, it was the women of course. 🙂🙂🙂

We’re looking to buy a place in #Ireland (because renting here is nigh on impossible these days) so I approached a mortgage broker and they just got back to me with this gem:

“Bank of Ireland will not consider your mortgage application because you run a not-for-profit.”

How bloody lovely.

Congratulations on creating a system that rewards the worst of the worst and fucks over those striving to work for the common good. I, for one, won’t be shedding a tear should it burn to the ground.

Excellent quote about Nazis

"Nice people made the best Nazis.

"Or so I have been told. My mother was born in Munich in 1934, and spent her childhood in Nazi Germany surrounded by nice people who refused to make waves. When things got ugly, the people my mother lived alongside chose not to focus on 'politics,' instead busying themselves with happier things. They were lovely, kind people who turned their heads as their neighbors were dragged away." — Naomi Shulman

It's kind of surreal to be scrolling through the Fuchsia website's "Open-source project" section, and see a list of RFCs that are all like

essential trans safeguarding info for UK education staff, badenoch 2/2

any adult working with children & yp is morally and legally obliged to ignore this guidance as it is so clear-cut that outing children to their parents would pose significant risk of harm to the child (violates Children's Act 1989, KCSiE and Working Together 2018). it so clearly contradicts the existing statutory guidance, and you will be protected *by law* if you ignore it

if you work in education you *must* ignore this forthcoming guidance, if not morally than let me explain why you should ignore it *legally*:

this is NON-STATUTORY GUIDANCE. it is trumped by statutory guidance (e.g. KCSiE, which still specifically mentions discrimination based on gender reassignment in the 2023 update) which is in turn trumped by law (equality act 2010, children's act 1989)
