re: politics metaphor

This pondering brought to you by observing *yet another* discussion about Signal where very real problems like "being tied to phone numbers" and "social graph analysis" are being swept under the carpet by any argumentation possible

politics metaphor

The Signal fanbase is like established-left political parties; they talk a big game about keeping people safe, but are completely ignorant of some obvious problems with their own systems, and can get aggressively defensive when confronted with them

Prime minister just anounced this was his last term.

sry, i can't reveal how my business operates because it operates illegally

A quick tip if you have friends who haven't joined Mastodon yet: Don't say any variation of "join Mastodon" at this point

Just tell them to join either your instance or some instance you know that you think they'll gel with. Eliminate the decision paralysis and just get them started :3

I was excited to receive my Talkback 14.0 update, as it was promised that it would bring support for the NLS e-Reader via USB. Once I plugged it in and powered on the device, TB recognized it immediately and I said okay to my Pixel using the e-Reader as a braille display. It looked like it would be a great experience, as I was able to read what was going on on my phone's screen. However, when it comes to writing, the experience changes dramatically. In fact, I feel discriminated against. It does not recognize dots as I input information. For example, when typing characters with three or more dots, such as l, d, g, etc., I literally must push each key individually while holding down the others in order for the right character to be placed in my document. This is deplorable. GoogleAccessibility should have done better. What would it look like if a phone was released to the sighted with a broken virtual keyboard? Do better #Google; have more blind people testing before releasing.

I am not exactly surprised anymore when people start arguments with me in other online spaces and flippantly dismiss when I bring up the impact racism has on an issue because it inconveniently staggers their argument.

Not surprised; just disappointed.

Keeping notif sounds disabled makes fedi boring enough for me not to be addicted to it

Not having notification sounds should be one of standard digital health features of open source software

Not saying "don't have notification sounds", but mayybe software should be designed in a way where it doesn't absolutely fuck neurodivergent people's attention

Indeed I was not very polite, regretfully the 500 replyguys before you have exhausted all the energy I've had for approaching this subject tactfully, please file your complaint with them or at least do your part in discouraging future replyguys from doing so

Oh, you don't really want to put in all that effort for a topic that doesn't already have your interest or conviction? Yeah, I thought so

Abolition is about alternatives. It’s about not asking cops with guns to handle situations they’re not trained for. It’s about building a society that helps those who need it instead of sending punishers to them. It’s about foundation building and community.

"AI is tragedy of the commons".

Shut the fuck up. Tragedy of the commons is a conservative meme to delegitimize public and common administration of resources without middlemen.

I was chatting about #SocialMedia experiences, and shared how I visualize #Mastodon in my head:

Mastodon is a fleet of cute little spaceships all traveling together. You're on one spaceship but you can communicate with and see all the other ships. When an instance "defederates", one ship is acting badly and another ship goes "Ugh" and blocks them/cuts them out of the fleet so they're just floating off alone 😆😂

(I think it's because "federate" and "defederate" give me cool space org vibes)
