I could never prove this, but knowing what I know about PR and crisis communications, it would not surprise me if a trillion-dollar company was just like, “Hey, Mastodon is gaining traction, let’s sell people on the idea that it’s hard to use with a whisper campaign,” and that whisper campaign went viral and shaped the discussion in a way that discouraged Mastodon from being taken seriously.
