I sometimes wonder whether the people using "but e-mail" as an argument against defederation have ever, y'know... used e-mail

@joepie91 they probably never tried to email someone self-hosting (or, slightly worse, running their email off a cpanel shared hosting box)

@joepie91 or, maybe they did, but never realised that the person they emailed never actually received it (or for that matter, couldn't reply to them)

@joepie91 We should have defederated with Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo Mail from the beginning. Than the world would have been a better place. 😉

@joenepraat @joepie91 sounds like you never selfhosted email ^^ Those tend to defederate with us. At least if you stick to non google RFCs :P (Though that's not the whole truth. While writing an IMAP and SMTP server, I did realize that an email server without all the required Gmail checks works better than one being compliant with Google Docs. My best guess is that some check isn't triggered without one of them, which stops the chain of checks from happening. Probably an oversight.)

@MTRNord Actually I did and you didn't got the 😉 at the end.
