re: personal, rationalism
(For the avoidance of any doubt, that includes almost everybody who actually *calls* themselves rationalist)
personal, rationalism
I used to be pretty deep into rationalism (the 'religion', not just the scientific principle), and the reason I am not anymore is because unlike many other rationalists, I didn't inexplicably exclude "rationalism itself" from the list of subjects to critically inspect
Which should tell you something about the people who continue to religiously follow "rationalism" as a core belief system that overrules all other considerations, and how "rational" they are actually being
suggesting that your 3D graph would look better with a scaled-up Y axis
@researchfairy I think your plot needs more depth
Seedy's guide to software release notes.
1. If a new feature has been added, explain both what the new feature is and how it will benefit users of your software and how they could use the feature. Bonus points if you actually take the time to describe it in your documentation (if any).
2. If an existing feature has been improved, explain *how* it has been improved and what advantage(s) the improvement has over the previous implementation.
3. If bugs were fixed, detail exactly what these bugs were, how they could be reproduced, and how they could have impacted the user experience of your software.
Boost this as much as you can, as far and wide as possible. More software developers need to take heed of this. I'm sick and tired of seeing empty, vague, meaningless one-line release notes that just say stuff like 'We've improved our product and fixed some bugs to make the user experience better for you.
Hey Fedi admins - it's messy right now. There's a lot of emotion bouncing around both the planet and the network.
Remember that "scaling" involves more than bandwidth and CPU load. As your user count grows, the emotional labour you'll be called on to do does as well.
If you're already at your *personal* limit, close your damn registrations for a bit. Make sure you've got support for *you* as well.
You are also a potential point of failure. Add redundancy and reduce the load on yourself.
One thing about stuff like Mastodon that I hope more people realize is that you have so many fun goofy ways to post to it because clients can basically be made for anything with an internet connection.
I've posted from MS-DOS both with a dedicated client (DOStodon is awesome) and with the Lynx browser and the Brutaldon web client. Its like the Doom of social media
Are there any voice actors here? I'm going to need to cast three roles for an animated short fairly soon and want to put some feelers out.

PSA:
you're an open-source software enthusiast, and want to tell people about open alternatives for things on your favorite social network.
what you should do:
point people to these alternatives if they specifically ask about alternatives for something
post about this cool stuff in your own profiles
maybe talk about this if they're not necessarily looking for alternatives, but do have some serious related problems
what you should NOT do:
constantly nag people about alternatives if they talk about proprietary things without looking for solutions or anything
by following these simple rules, you will avoid scaring people off your favorite things and you will not stress them out. which is nice, right? and you're nice too, right? so, like, do that, alright?
alright.
What they mean of course when they say it is we're not normal, but want to be considered normal.
Course what the right wingers and liberals don't dream of is a lot of queer people not only don't believe in "normal," but don't see assimilation as a goal
If you can grant us permission to enter your mainstream, you can change your mind and take it away again

- Boosts OK for all boostable posts.
- DMs are open.
- Flirting welcome, but be explicit if you want something out of it!
- The devil doesn't need an advocate; no combative arguing in my mentions.
Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
