The benefit of doubt extended to the "existential risk" people, including ppl coming to me talking to me about "building bridges" is incredibly offensive to me given
1) what I know to be the foundations of this movement
2) what I've experienced from them
3) what we know about their various cults &
4) how they have ALL THE $$ & AIRTIME
Maybe they can start by loudly disavowing the awful foundations & ppl of their movement? Why is no one putting the onus on them?
White privilege pure & simple.
@dansup fedi admins meeting with Meta under NDAs is shit, that's what it is.
It's effectively giving Meta power over fedi, by giving Meta power over what fedi admins can and cannot share with their communities.
Which admins went, do you know?
Edit: as this is getting boosted, please refrain from reacting by getting pitchforks and torches. I stand by my statement that signing Meta's NDAs is shit, but we need to act as a community to deal with that. Not as a mob! 👈
A lot of media cannot think in any other terms than VC-funded startups chasing hockey-stick growth, and proclaiming them failed the moment that growth slows down.
#Fediverse in general, and #Threadiverse in particular, are not VC-funded startups. They don't need that hockey-stick growth.
We're here to build resilient, equitable, safe communities, not to maximize shareholder value. Don't get distracted or disheartened because some people don't get that.
Some do:

Metformin cuts risk of #longCOVID by 40% in patients with obesity, study
A new study shows metformin can diminish risk of developing long #COVID by more than 40% in overweight & obese patients
Metformin is primarily used to treat type 2 #diabetes and gestational diabetes and helps the body lower blood sugar levels. Previous modelling studies had suggested that it could potentially suppress the #coronavirus' ability to build new proteins & make copies of itself
One of my friends is a mod of a very large subreddit that went private for the blackout. Last night she received a message saying that she had been stripped of her moderator rights and the subreddit was taken public again. To be very clear, the subreddit members had specifically voted in favor of going private.
It seems like reddit will stoop lower and lower to try and break the blackout. I'm seething.
Update on #kbin: it looks like this was a genuine mistake. The response from the developer is promising and seems genuine; and the issue should be rectified soon.
Looks like #kbin has been caught copying code without attribution? https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/196
If you see "parental rights" or "parents' rights" in the context of the autonomy and medical and social welfare of a child within the federal jurisdiction of Canada, it may interest you to note that that concept is fairly antithetical to the established legal approach (as imperfect as it often is). According to practice here — as far as I understand it, based on conversations with lawyers and social workers — the welfare of the child comes first and foremost, and the concept of parental rights is not really a thing, but in the eyes of the courts and the law should be framed rather as parental responsibility. Parents don't have the right to do whatever they want with their children. Parents have the responsibility to the welfare and wellbeing of their children.
"Parents rights" is a gender critical, queerphobic, and ableist dogwhistle. Be on guard when you see it.
To be frank, I think the absolute best thing you can do in the era of social media collapse, the enshittification of the internet, and chatGPT turning informational websites to grey goo is to find real people and stay in contact with them
as we lose the ability to Google things easily, to find easy answers to problems, to buy things online, to communicate easily online knowledge, skills, and services will be lost; knowing the right person can be a literal lifesaver in that scenario

Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p
My spoons are limited, so I may not always have the energy to respond to messages.
Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
