no dear US person, my phone number doesn't have "too many digits", it has a fucking international prefix

someone should come up with a tiling pattern that looks like spock so we can have spoxels

The unions are asking for at least 10,5% more pay and a general lift of 250€/mo for everyone, based on 10+% inflation since quite some time now. The employers offer 5% and a one-time payment of 2.500€.

Ramadan Mubarak to all the Egyptian and Lebanese software providers that now need to scramble to get their stuff updated because their government gave them less than a week notice of these changes.

hospital, +

So like, the room and food are nice and all, but perhaps the most surprisingly positive thing about this hospital is that they got me a private room because of my noise/stimuli sensitivity

... without me even needing to ask for it.

Likewise they asked me whether there's anything they could do to make my stay nicer, ND-wise

Casual UvA: how to organise a grading strike with 200 lecturers
doorbraak.eu/casual-uva-how-to

"Last spring the organisation Casual UvA (University of Amsterdam) staged an impressive grading strike involving over 200 university lecturers on temporary contracts. Lecturers refused to submit their students’ grades into the administrative system as a way of putting pressure on university management. Casual UvA’s main issue was the successive one-year contracts that temporary contract workers received, only to be fired after three temporary contracts.

We talked to Casual UvA representative Alex Lopez about the strike, and about how Casual UvA itself is organised." 👌

TIL that a movie must be shown in a Los Angeles cinema for at least 7 days to ever even qualify for an Oscar

Watching Twitter leftists/queers getting their accounts un-suspended by claiming they were "targeted by woke cancel culture for their right-wing beliefs" is hilarious to watch, but also a *really* good reminder of who gets a free pass on Twitter and who doesn't, and I really hope more people come to realize this and form community elsewhere. If it's willing to give a free pass just for *pretending* to be a right-wing chud, imagine what it's willing to actually let the chuds themselves get away with.

a big part of why i use actual physical bound paper to manage my life tasks is that no app designer can decide it's profitable to turn it into an attention gauntlet

i'm coining the term "attention gauntlets" to explain why my email inbox and similar digital environments are so unmanageable for me.

#solarpunk #gamedesign idea:

Survival game where you learn to be a part of an ecosystem and slowly abandon your unsustainable "tech tree" replacing it with sustainable, local solutions.

---

A lot of games are trying to replicate very expansionist core loops, be it Minecraft's, Factorio's and so on, which see the player as a force acting on the environment / ecosystem, not working together with it.

Why not change it?

Coders - sorry, but especially men - please try to be more conscious of how you're phrasing things when in conversations about how easy or difficult concepts are, to people who either don't code or are brand new.

Phrases like, "I don't see why that's difficult to understand," or "that's just obvious," immediately (and often completely) knock down the courage of the person asking for help (or even someone just listening to your conversation).

PSA: Big strike next #Monday in #Germany. There will be NO long distance trains riding. Frankfurt airport (and others too, I am quite sure) will NOT be handling passenger flights. Show some solidarity with the workers and begrudgingly accept this is happening and it is happening for the right reasons. #kthxbai

How about a vegan restaurant where fake meat is presented as mythical monsters. So instead of like "Oh it's pretty close to beef I guess" reactions, you can just claim it is dragon meat and tastes exactly like dragon. I feel like kids would love this.
