HAM radio, 🧵
Alright, so we need to talk about HAM radio.
So I'm actually a general licensed HAM, I cannot stress how wonderful and delightful of a hobby and learning experience it has been.
But, we have a serious, serious, problem with the demographics, and it's killing the art.
So let's talk about it...
@owashii "if you actually defend yourself with violence you are as bad as them"
Libs end up fetishizing nonviolence, which only really serves the fash. Because they use that "don't be violent" aspect to put pressure on the left, while the right and fash are understood to be violent by default
And like
Nonviolence is a tool
It's useful
But it's not *the only tool*
It's the compromise position. "Deal with me, fix the situation, or then you deal with others who will be more active in their defense"
I’m exhausted by the way so many people believe that if they just remain obedient and subservient, capitalism will eventually reward them for their effort, despite all evidence to the contrary.

.art has one moderator for every ~1000 active users, 10 mods total right now, spread over all timezones.
We have six or seven of the top eight languages used on our instance covered (and more that aren't in the top 8), and we're an entirely queer team; our team has BIPoC, queer, ND and disabled voices with a great deal of intersectionality between them.
I say this because I'm proud of our team, and I'm glad to have their voices contributing to keeping .art a safe space. <3
"Libraries aren't just a place to obtain books for free. They're one of the few public spaces left in our society where you're allowed to exist without the expectation of spending money."
If you are a person of relative privilege please CW your political posts. It took a lot of work to get people to respect that norm pre-influx and it seems to have gone by the wayside again.
Not everyone lives in your country and not everyone can follow politics while maintaining their mental well-being. Give people the choice.
People who are not privileged get a pass because they have some things other people need to hear whether they want to or not.
Technical debt collector and general hype-hater. Early 30s, non-binary, ND, poly, relationship anarchist, generally queer.

Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p
My spoons are limited, so I may not always have the energy to respond to messages.
Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
