launching a fedi instance that blocks all mentions of a certain queen instance-wide

The year is 2122, we have seized the means of production, public transport is free and easily available, the few cars that still drive do so autonomously with zero accidents, Half Life 3 has been released and all our power needs are fulfilled by nuclear fusion.
You update your Linux system:
( 1/23) upgrading xorg-server

Something to think about: there are lots of plausible solutions to long-standing problems that you will never hear about - because the people with the solutions stopped talking about them publicly, as they were constantly laughed out of the room or harassed over them, just because they were unconventional solutions or broke with tradition.

financial dependence is *such* an effective tool of abuse, that we really should be working together as a society for things like ubi, and universal health care, if for no other reason than to reduce the levels of power abusive employers, spouses and parents have over theur victims.

it wasn’t obvious to me but it’s so clear now that virtually all conservative policies are about increasing those power imbalances

:boosts_ok_gay: more resources on (accessible) color palette design highly appreciated!

they are apparently still around. also from their finance reports it seems they got *at least* a $200.000 investment to start... for essentially a non-federating fediverse instance

casual ableism online and elsewhere

i've copied and pasted this point in several posts onhere before but here it is again: "even if it's correct to point out a given example is hyperbolic, bringing up these fringe examples to laugh at them is a way of reinforcing the idea that disabled people's demands for accommodation in a community are absurd, and should be met with cynicism"

@prehensile
and one about how one the bigger mac game developers of the 90s flubbed their payment processing so they could take credit card payments

payment providers didn't have a business category for selling software digitally, so they registered as a bodega

at one point they paid a contractor who turned out to be a NASA engineer as his day job

it turns out the FBI gives you serious side-eye if you're a "bodega" based in a residential suburb and send thousands of dollars to NASA engineers

Anarchism doesn't mean you get to treat people like trash, and any academic who continually persists in pushing this line of inquiry should immediately be beaten with a printed copy of their drivel that's been rolled up into a tube.

If you cannot take the time to learn about something, you really should stop trying to pretend you're an expert on it.

Oh, a new USB Standard: „USB4 2.0“

At this rate the next USB generation will be named:
Copy of USB4 2.0 Generation 3-4x2_final(2)

It’s trying to start a race against UserAgent strings!

Gotta love it when a Wikipedia article is clearly written by someone who's still holding a grudge: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Est

What’s going on in Jackson, Mississippi
Pearl River flooded Sunday and the city water treatment facility failed. The entire city has no drinking water, no water to flush toilets, bathe, put out fires, etc. Cooperation Jackson is on the ground now doing mutual aid relief work to help those most vulnerable in this crisis. They need our support, please donate at cooperationjackson.org/donate

Oops, forgot a `yield` in there, that's what triggers the actual parsing

Did a syntax crime and now I have a really neat abstraction for parsing text/line-based formats

student loans discourse

so a lotta people say that they don't wanna cancel student loans bc they have paid for it, and if they are gonna cancel them, that means their efforts were useless

they are obviously wrong (sunk cost fallacy aka "I already started so I might as well continue even though this is harmful to me and others)

but what really interested me is that you think we should still help those people

here's why:

current piracy levels are 99%
