I'm sick of being around cars, having to hear cars, see cars, breathe their fumes, worry about getting hit by them, walk around parked cars when I wanna cross the street, hear people talk about cars, live in a city that's built around cars cars cars cars cars...

Kartoffel. Die Pflanze heißt Kartoffel. (Verzweifelt aus dem Baumarkt gesendet.)

if you can get tackled, ziptied, and arrested by agents of the state for protesting the state without their permission, do you *really* have the right to protest? does it make it better or worse, knowing that *they knew* the charges wouldn't stick, and they just wanted to beat you and strip you of your humanity because you spoke out of turn?

environment variables are a shit way to provide extensive configs imo, especially if you don't use docker....

Wow, what the fuck Gigabyte. Apparently when my motherboard gets power backfeed via a dodgy DisplayPort cable, it doesn't like, warn me about it, or have any sort of backfeed protection.

Instead, it just starts being unable to reboot without a hard power cycle, *and* starts reading the CPU temperature as permanently -55C (no, that's not a typo), causing it to completely disable the CPU fan regardless of actual temperature... which was up in the mid-90s.

On top of their (shitty) fan curve smoothing option only being exposed via a crappy Windows app and not via the EFI.... yeah, I ain't gonna be buying Gigabyte again 😐

food

me, looking at a clock: eh, it's still early, I'll eat in like 30 minutes

*subjective moments later*

me, looking at a clock: huh no wonder I'm hungry I should have eaten 2 hours ago

politics, cryptobunk

Goddamn neoliberals. e24.no/norsk-oekonomi/i/Po8z3b

To summarize/paraphrase: PoW cryptocurrency mining won't be banned in Norway because they "wouldn't want to inhibit innovation" and "it's not their job as politicians to decide what is and isn't useful for society" (WTF??)

politics, cryptobunk

Also extremely depressing to see that said political parties have bought into the bullshit about how blockchains are super useful technology, when in reality they've been completely fundamentally broken for a decade by now

grumble

really hate how pervasive the concept of "stupidity" is in the collective conciousness. call people something else please

surely all the reasonable usage is covered by concepts like "negligence" or "ignorance" or "naïvité" or anything else that has more nuance and less ableism

also the inverse concept, "intelligence", is also not real thank you

Just deployed pages alpha v0.0.3-patch3!

It runs on pixie.homes, which has like 0 info on it yet oops, but you can already access the README for it's own repo through either:

homes.pixie.town (CNAME custom domain) or
main.pixie-pages.f0x.pixie.hom (automatic subdomain)

It's all still very early days but stuff kinda seems to work so that's neat!

all the source code can be found in git.pixie.town/f0x/pixie-pages

ableism and fiction

One of the things that gets me about a lot of sci fi is the idea that Disabled people won't exist in the future. Like, they aren't even considered. Aside from the implications that they've all been cured or whatever, or some eugenics bullshit, it's lazy writing to me. I mean think! Just for a second, think of all the possibilities for a future where people are equal. If science fiction is all about asking "What if?" I don't care for a story where the question if "what if there were no Disabled people," but rather, "what if everyone were on equal footing and treated like they have agency?"

the switzerland experience is using things in english, half of it being german anyways and getting ads in french and italian

That model, of course, also neatly predicted the failure we're currently seeing with competing streaming services; which not only exceed the recommended price when you combine them, but also aren't interoperable *and* have DRM interfering with it. Which is why people are returning to piracy.

This article is a fascinating read, and gives some insight into the history of piracy and music streaming: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_mus

10-ish minute oil pastel sketch without reference. It's a bit wonky but I like the textures ^.^ #MastoArt

I'm starting a small call for entries for a yet-to-exist 'zine on tech for resting, being lazy, letting be, and having a break. Share wide and far.

--

For the first Fallow Zine, la Jachère is interested in contributions about the following topics, but not limited to them.

- Lazy tech or tech for the lazies
- Tech that falls into place, fits, is just enough
- Tech for rest, pause, have a break, take a breath
- Tech for preservation, of the status quo, of energy, of a moment, of equilibrium

More on jache.re/notes/call-fallow-zin

- Deadline: 21. June 2022 (more or less… deadlines are thresholds to play with)
