@FunkyBob@chaos.social I've done this in the past for some personal projects, though possibly that was a smaller scale than you're looking for.
It mostly involved 'converging' the styles first (identifying similar things and combining them into a set of shared semantic rules that's smaller and less duplicated in total), and then once that was done, changing the implementation of those rules.
The convergence step served mainly to prevent "oops I overlooked this one place that only partly shares this set of rules and now I accidentally broke it" by making sure that semantically similar elements actually use a similar set of class names.
The process is not that different from how I do this for other code refactoring, though in this case 'similarity' is determined by an element's purpose in the layout or design and visual style, rather than the logic of a function.

Oh, NS, why must you torture me so? Not only is the intercity service run using SLT, but then a detour past The Hague means I get to look at all those comfy ICM, ICNG, VIRM and DDZ that could've run instead!
I mean, given that all intercity trains between Utrecht and Rotterdam use sprinter trains it might be something about this route that is not quite compatible, but still.
@Stephanie From what I know, the reason for that was (at least originally) that the ICNG delivery was delayed and so part of that route got sprinter stock running intercity services (nickname: sprintercity) because they ran out of intercity trains

Today's project: fixing the design issue in the foldable machine frame I bought (https://www.lidl.nl/p/parkside-universeel-machineonderstel/p100376623), which requires you to install bolts upside down to fasten a machine to it, which is very annoying because it falls out during installation all the time! And it makes it needlessly difficult to swap machines, which is the whole reason I got it.
So now I'm designing a sort of 'bolt carrier' that can slide across the slot along with the bolt and hold the bolt in place, in the hopes that this will fix my problem. If it does work, I can add a tool-less wingnut-type thing to it, to make it easier to swap out machines.
