Okay this is pretty hilarious, a Dutch soda brand (Hero) recalled their apple juice because it contained caffeine

That just sounds like a product idea to me

long-ish response to etiquette question

@williampietri This pretty much describes me (and it's definitely an AuDHD thing). What works best for me is when someone just outright asks "when should I remind you?" and otherwise makes clear what the expectations are.

For example, something like "let me know if you don't have time for this right now, I have a plan B" or "if you want to delay, just send me a short e-mail with when to remind you, nothing fancy" is immensely helpful to me in communicating the (social) expectations.

It's a pretty difficult balance to hit, even for myself; too many reminders and it starts feeling like pressure, too few reminders and it just vanishes from my brain, never to be found again, and I don't always know what the right frequency is for myself. So I wouldn't blame anyone for getting the frequency wrong, as long as I can tell them "hey remind me less/more often" without them getting offended (and like with everything, it helps if that's made explicit).

I guess in the end it all comes down to the ability to communicate expectations and needs clearly and directly in both directions, without dancing around the issue. As long as that's possible (and I can be *confident* that it is), I'm not likely to be bothered by any particular choice someone makes on how to interact with me, because it can always be corrected for anyway.

Free Geek Twin Cities is an incredible resource.

That is all

so from the looks of it, the bots are scraping trending hashtags like #SilentSunday , #RulesToSqueakBy , #MonochromeMonday etc, all of which are filled with gentle civilians posting pretty photos and thoughtful advice. perhaps the most sporting thing to do in the circumstances would be to drive a little-used hashtag to the top of the chart instead

Wow just had a really nice conversation with someone on the train for like 45 minutes

Good morning everyone. :)

I hope you have a Magnificent Monday.

Always remember, you are loved and your dreams matter.

Today we are gonna be talking about how Hard Disk drives work.

An HDD consists of one or more rigid disk platters, typically made of aluminum or glass. These platters are coated with a magnetic material that allows for data storage. The read/write head, also known as the disk head, is an electromagnet mounted on a movable arm. It can both write data onto the disk by aligning magnetic particles on the platter and read data by detecting the orientation of those particles. The disk platters are spun at high speeds typically between 5,400 and 15,000 revolutions per minute by a spindle motor, allowing for quick data access. Data is stored in concentric circles, called tracks, on the disk platter.

@q Dunno if still the case, but some of their folks used to hang around LowEndTalk so I guess you could always complain there and see if that attracts someone?

anyone have a contact at Voxility? they're dropping my traffic and won't answer my emails because I'm not a customer

Being awake and outside before 8 am is freaky. Why are there bicycle queues on the road?

@morachbeag Yeah, this always bothers me. It always comes from the most from hardcore marxists, but like... Marx was racist. Yeah, class is important to focus on, and I'm for a balanced socialist society, but Marx also said Mexicans were lazy, despite not having actually lived in Mexico to understand why you would take a nap in the middle of the day: the same reason mid-day naps are common in Vietnam, the heat will kill you. He just broadly attached the concept of "lazy" to any people of color he didn't feel like "worked hard enough".

Mexico isn't/wasn't poorer because the people there are "lazy". There's something else, and that something else is important to note: colonization and resource extraction from wealthy white people, mostly from other countries, particularly Europe.

Sorry to tangent. This just really bothers me when people say to "set aside racial differences" and focus on class. Black people were literally not allowed in white unions until relatively recently in history. You can't simply ignore that.

"People who use AI at work feel that they're more productive" is an argument I've been seeing in various forms lately, which, as a recommendation, is not far removed from "people on cocaine at parties feel that they're more interesting."

What Happened Yonder? My @why2025camp talk: 'Consent for Hackers, negotiating consent based on HTTP status codes' has been accepted and confirmed.

Let's talk to people about negotiating consent before engaging in personal and physical interactions. Your browser does it with every webserver, so why shouldn't you do the same with people?
