@noiob I guess it *would* be on-brand for Oracle to be all "how do you do, fellow kids" and proceed to completely flub the landing

What on earth is this 404 page? Is there a reference I'm not getting here?

Thinking about the recent point in history where women's clothing shifted, corsets went out of style, clothing became more revealing, and at the same time standardized clothing sizes replaced tailoring, and there was greater pressure to diet and exercise to make your now-exposed body the "right" size.

Because I think something similar happened with social media, but to people's minds instead of their bodies.

Social media has given us an unprecedented opportunity to share our innermost thoughts and feelings with the world, but along with that has come a new pressure to make all the private parts of our mind correct. Even when weirdness is fashionable, you're expected to be weird in the acceptable way.

@kescher Hey, infamous is a type of famous :p

Credit where it’s due: the overhead racks in this train are *massive* - among the best designed I’ve ever seen

fedi meta, light-hearted

If Nicole's goal was to become fedi-famous, I would say that she has definitely succeeded at that, albeit probably not quite in the way she'd hoped

@hazelnot That sounds like a shell-specific issue? Possibly a special character in the URL that triggers some shell feature, that you need to escape? I know very little about zsh

@hazelnot If you haven't installed it yet, I would strongly recommend installing `tldr`; you can run it like `tldr <command goes here>` and it'll show you some common/varied usage examples for the command, I often find it enough to remind me of how to use a tool without needing to refer to docs

@hazelnot You *can* do so, but yt-dlp will pick reasonable defaults if you don't

@hazelnot Just running `yt-dlp` without any further arguments should be enough

Looks like advertising industry ghouls are looking to show ads on parcel tracking pages now: gls-group.eu/NL/en/Spotlight/

If you use eBay, they’ve just updated their T&Cs to say that they may train generative models (AI) on your personal data. Opt out here, if you’re in the EEA, UK or Switzerland: accountsettings.ebay.co.uk/ai-

@danfairs That looks like a GDPR violation; this should be opt-in, not opt-out.

"Verschillende medewerkers van een bedrijf aan de Middenweg in Moerdijk zijn woensdag onwel geworden door een nog onbekende stof die vrijkwam. Rond elf uur laat de brandweer weten dat de stof niet meer vrijkomt."

... als je niet weet welke stof het is, hoe weet je dan precies dat die niet meer vrijkomt...?

health, negative-ish (2)

That I tested positive for COVID really wasn't a surprise at all, to be honest; housemate tested positive on a self-test earlier, everyone else had also gotten sick shortly after (though to varying degrees), and there were no other credible sources of infection, so we pretty much already knew.

Test result is in: yep, I've got a COVID infection. Still have a fever, everything hurts, nose is constantly clogged. So far my blood pressure (the main risk factor here) seems to be okay.

Feeling slightly better now than yesterday. Still feel like crap though.

@domo Thanks - I do actually have good masks (3M Auras) and wear them consistently, it most likely entered the household through someone else who lives here, and didn't get spotted in time because it was mistaken for an allergic response

Whaaa, you launch a fast train between Amsterdam and Brussels and the slower train is the faster and cheaper option 😂

health, negative

Well, I have a 39 celsius fever now, which is Not Good. It's very likely I caught Covid too, which fucking sucks given that I am immunocompromised.
