We went into the spice shop the other day, and on the door where a lot of shops have that "all are welcome here" mass-produced sticker, they had taped up a crayon drawing of a pride flag with a child's signature on the back, and honestly it was so cute I'm still just sitting here thinking about it a week later.
More of that.
@ethorsoe Because for software it's a much more complex point to argue, and including it risks drowning the entire proposal in endless debate :)

re: advice needed re:medical shit, kinda freaking out
@hazelnot I would still get it checked out regardless, if at all possible. Anxiety is no joke either, and can *cause* health issues too...
Even very low tech societies had substances they used for soap and items for grooming. You're not getting back to nature, you're just being nasty
Hygiene is a fact of life, not a capitalist plot
A thing about language that a lot of people don't know is that you can dislike a usage intensely – a pronunciation, a piece of grammar, etc. – without presuming to reject it on behalf of all people, in all places, for all time

Authoritarian BS is the root of the problem. Incredibly stunted "dominate or be dominated!!!" worldviews…take hold in the some, rather than understanding that interconnections and diversity are the foundations. of. life. itself. on this planet.
I want to live in a collaboration focused world, and the only thing standing in the way of that is a bunch pigs who believe in force, their propaganda, and socialized/brainwashed folks who buy into that shit at varying levels.
check your biases.
re: advice needed re:medical shit, kinda freaking out
@hazelnot (Also there are a lot of things that are kind of like a stroke, less severe/urgent but still needing medical attention because it suggests some other underlying issue, which is why it's a good idea to get it checked out. This probably wasn't a full-on stroke judging from your description.)
re: advice needed re:medical shit, kinda freaking out
@hazelnot "Too young" is mainly a statistical thing, making it unlikely but not *impossible* that it would've been a stroke. I would definitely get it looked at if at all possible, though probably best to talk to your own GP/doctor first (if you have one) rather than going directly to the hospital. They will probably tell you whether a hospital trip is needed.
@thomholwerda (Also, perhaps a better question to ask here is *why* it's predominantly inexperienced teens handling such a high-risk job, and what politics make it so)
@thomholwerda The big problem with that idea is that digital banking infrastructure is fundamentally centralized in its control; it creates a 'center of power' that is trivial to subvert by whoever gets into power to exclude people of choice from society.
While cash is *nominally* centrally controlled, its fundamentally decentralized and peer-to-peer nature makes it much more difficult to effectively enforce such mechanisms, and that is a significant protection from authoritarianism.
And yes, with that lack of central control come societal risks. As is basically always true for anything that resists authoritarianism by decentralizing power. You could have the exact same discussion about camera surveillance, for example.
