Bambu DRM, harsh
I have to admit I don't have much sympathy for the folks who have gotten screwed by Bambu introducing DRM on their printers. What did you *think* was going to happen?
It would be different if this were a consumer product. But tinkerers and hackers really have no excuse, IMO - you are all sufficiently equipped to recognize when a company is gearing up for vendor-locking and DRM, and the writing was on the wall from the start with Bambu. Remember the filament spool RFID tags?
You chose to disregard the obvious warning signs and widespread cautions about their business practices, and gave them your money, free publicity, and free labour. You fucked around, and now you are finding out.
(And good luck "convincing Bambu to roll it back" or "working around the DRM", by the way. If you hadn't noticed, their business was structured to enshittify from the start, so you will be tilting at windmills forever. You'd be better off disavowing them right now and moving your work to an open ecosystem instead.)
Like, if you insist that you know better than people with years of experience in the field, at least acknowledge your own fucking role in your problems if it doesn't work out, fucks sake
love articles like this https://insurancenewsnet.com/innarticle/disability-claims-skyrocket-raising-new-puzzle-alongside-excess-mortality
"Along with a baffling rise in post-pandemic mortality rates that has insurers stymied, the number of Americans claiming disabilities has skyrocketed since 2020"
oh my god, what could have caused public health to go in the shitter? i know there was this plague in 2020 that we just started ignoring cause it was too hard in 2022, but that can't be it. what a mystery!
also, the actuaries know. they've known for half a fucking decade. they've published articles about it for gods sake. of course insurers fucking know why
"Mental health disorders also surge"
boy do i have news for you about some of the large array of disorders covid, the brain damaging disease, causes!
There are no leaf blowers allowed in #spoonieTown instead we sit in Adirondack chairs in the shade and watch the scythers silently scythe the lawn.
Job posting: scythers wanted. Outdoor work on sunny days, must have good swing.
health update, transplantation, very positive
@joepie91 Drains are super annoying, congratulations on being free of it ^_^
urinary health, schools, genital ment
@joepie91 and there's also a fun patriarchal dimension of this issue affecting the part of the population that doesn't have a penis even more.
urinary health, schools
@joepie91 But seriously, it's a power trip. There is literally no reason to force kids to hold it. "You will miss part of the class" Oh please, do you really think that a child that desperately needs to pee will be able to concentrate on whatever you are teaching? If you are so concerned, put the class on hold and do a short quiz of something.
I really wonder how is this not classified as child abuse.
Gotta say - it’s hard to remember this, but it’s a good goal to keep in mind https://kolektiva.social/@sidereal/113851362173573416
urinary health, schools
It occurs to me that I and many many others grew up being told in school to "try to hold it in until after class" when we needed to take a piss, and yet every single medical professional I've spoken to in this kidney transplantation process has told me that doing so is bad for your kidneys, even for healthy people.
Same story for toilets in public spaces. Often simply not available (whether non-existent or too expensive or too dirty) and the response to criticism about this is to "just hold it in until you get home".
Why exactly are we teaching people to "hold it in" if we *know* that doing so is bad for you?
on Americaposting, @ fellow non-Americans
also, while I'm at it, dear fellow non-Americans:
I understand that you, too, are full of dread, but please evaluate earnestly for yourselves what you actually get out of constantly engaging with American politics and posting through it on here
is doing so actually something that benefits you? is getting constant live updates on this stuff healthy for you?
request for cwing, my personal view of constantly reading about America
it doesn't make me a better artist or friend, I don't learn anything new, and I can't do anything about or with the things I do learn
reading about America, its politics, its worst people, all it does is fill me with dread, and for what? to what benefit?
please cw your Americaposting
For the #StarTrek fans, particularly those who listen to shows from the Roddenberry Podcast Network. I'm curious who would be interested in a podcast called Trek After Dark, where a cohost and me explore Star Trek from the perspective of a blind person and piece together episodes without visuals. Occasionally discuss what the episode does or says about disability/neurodivergence/other small communities when relevant? I'm still nailing things down but that's a rough idea and I'm trying to gage interest.
I'm also looking for RPN's contact info in the hopes that maybe I can discuss this with them.
