related to the current state of the world
so fuck it, i said. i will call myself by my name. i will dye my hair blue. i will abandon my deadname. i will jack off without shame to the porn i like. i will ask out that guy i wanted to. i will draw. i will play my guitar and write my furry queer stories. i will learn how to sew, how to fistfight, how to breakdance. i will finish that book i wanted to read. i will say things i believe out loud and won't hide anymore.
related to the current state of the world
i was in a voice call with my family (real family, not blood family) today, and we were talking about life and i said "you know, i usually resign and just cry about it with no hope...but...so much shit in the world happened recently, and i was like, well if it is all going to shit, and there's no going back from that, well, then fuck it. i want to fight. i want to live and do what i want now, because who knows when else i will have that time?"
re: the bcachefs thing, abusive behaviour and CoCs
@bananas The original source mentioned "reverse racism" and "reverse sexism" claims as one of the reasons and that honestly tells me all I need to know about how those discussions went, really
the bcachefs thing, abusive behaviour and CoCs
Honestly, every time you see someone claiming "I got banned for doing X and that is unfair/absurd!" your first instinct should be to go to the source and find the actual documented rationale for the ban, because 99 out of a 100 times it's going to be a *very* different story.
the bcachefs thing, abusive behaviour and CoCs
*looks at post by the developer defending himself*
*sees a reference to an incident in the Python ecosystem*
"Hm, that seems like an absurd reason to ban someone, I should probably check whether that incident actually happened as they claim"
(It did not happen as they claim in the Python case and there was the usual laundry list of CoC violations being reduced down to "all they did was X!", ie. the standard tactical abuser playbook)
ai, programming discourse
> I don’t get how you can see some of the world’s best programmers use a new technology to make them better at programming and shrug it off.
the world's best programmers have spent decades teaching me that our field serves power before anything else. all my work is conditioned by their enthusiastic embrace of rent seeking, the cloud, & totalized surveillance - building blocks for both the current AI state of affairs & a looming authoritarian nightmare.
@silvermoon82 Not that I know of.
@hans Honestly the biggest challenge of any dating platform isn't really going to be the technical side anyway, but rather the moderation side. They're hotbeds for abuse otherwise, unfortunately.
(I have tried to work out a plan for this many times before)
@joepie91 Apparently this is very difficult to get right because iOS suffers from the same problem.
Also wake up alarms.
Strangely enough, my old Nokia N97 which I used until 2014 didn’t have any of these issues.

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
