@alda Right. So does Festinger Vault then provide, like, alternative update servers? Or is it basically just "we stripped out the license check for you, good luck"?

@alda Festinger Vault claims to be GPL-compliant, and I only know nulled plugins from definitely-not-GPL plugins for eg. forum software.

I guess the scheme is that some WP plugins are GPL (... to fit in the Wordpress license...?) and then build in a 'support license' check and integration which it is entirely legal to remove or replace, which Festinger Vault does, if I understand correctly?

@ifixcoinops Truly baffling quantities of stuff can be carried on a bike with some of those bags. With mine I regularly move an entire shopping cart worth of groceries.

NY Times tech union has asked users not to play Wordle or other Times games while they are on strike. It's a really easy way to support them. polygon.com/news/474209/new-yo

I mean it about touching bikes being calming

There's something very reassuring about a machine that doesn't need petrol or electricity but can still take you 100km in a day

Got some spare tubes, a patching kit and some basic tools, maybe $20 worth, all fits in the bottom quarter of the saddlebags no problem leaving room for lots of snacks, and with that much it'll just Keep Going

As long as my legs work, this machine works, and there's enormous comfort in that.

@alda (Do you have a brief summary of what Festinger Vault does exactly? I'm having a lot of trouble finding a description of what it is, that isn't editorialized to the point of uselessness...)

weird gendered leg discussion re: bikes

Bikes make you aware of the power of your legs.

Weird gendered thing about the top versus bottom halves of your body: most women I know are aware of how strong their legs are, whereas when a bloke thinks about his strength, like he's gonna try and move something heavy, he tends to think of his arms and chest and back. I've seen many fresh new trans lads suddenly becoming more aware of their shoulders or biceps for example.

Which, like, even a really strong person's arms don't have nearly as much torque or endurance as the most thoroughly ordinary leg. So after a couple of times of looking down at my little ten-dollar Sunding speedo/odometer and seeing Just How Far I'd gone, I think it kinda altered my relationship with my legs? Like now, when I have to do something that needs a lot of strength, even like unscrewing a big rusted bolt, I keep thinking of how this would be much easier if I could let my legs do it instead of my arms? I move differently, I stand differently, I'm more aware of this whole half of my body I've been under-using

And I say this to the women and femme and AFAB people in my life and they're like ??? you didn't know??, and the not-bike-riding cis blokes I talk to about it go ??? oh huh yeah I guess, wild???

It's almost as if modern american carcentric life has hidden my whole entire legs from me lol

Today I learned that HRT is available over-the-counter without a prescription in Spain, apparently?

o.a. advies qua koffie drinken en gezondheid

o.a. advies qua koffie drinken en gezondheid

Qua harttoestanden, tja, moeilijk.

health, positive

Asked the hospital whether I could have another blood test for potassium to make sure I am balancing it correctly for the transplantation, even though no tests were scheduled until going into hospital; somewhat pleasantly surprised to find a blood test form in my e-mail inbox within the hour, without any questioning or arguing, on my way to the testing place now

Soo, I fried my #framework motherboard.

I'm looking for a framework 13 motherboard, intel 12 or 13 gen.

DM me if you upgraded your laptop recently. I'll buy the old one from you.

Retoot appreciated.

@silvermoon82 @smitten RCS is now common/default on Android at least, and that does provide all of these things, and it's mostly a behind-the-scenes change and falls back to SMS where it's not supported.

(The reason WhatsApp originally became popular in NL was because it was free to send messages, whereas SMS cost money per message)

personal experiences, re: bitterness re: attempts at a queer shelter thing

@elilla And a detail that I missed: a big part of what makes this work also seems to be that we try to talk out issues *early*, as soon as they start grating, before they have a chance to fester and cause grudges and frustrations to build up

personal experiences, re: bitterness re: attempts at a queer shelter thing

@elilla For what it's worth, I think that this is actually very useful advice - you can usually learn most from how things have gone wrong. Stories and experiences like this are exactly what helped me figure out healthier ways of community-building over the years.

The result so far, here, is a household that I would say is somewhere between 'polycule' and 'small commune', but moving towards the latter very very slowly and gradually as we figure things out and stabilize them, I guess we'll eventually end up shaping a commune out of the household, though who knows what the future holds. And it all pretty much started as "me hosting queer folks" too, and just sort of developed from there.

What has helped a lot here too is that we all come from an online queer community that has a strong emphasis on conflict resolution and talking out problems, leaving a ban as the last resort when someone is structurally refusing to engage in the conflict resolution process, and so much of this is "just" a matter of porting that to a physical household/community, and working out the pragmatic issues like chore division and delegation. We've all already had a chance to practice this mode of interaction in a lower-stakes environment.
