re: health, positive...? sort of?

@rune Well to a point, I should still not overdo it, I assume :p And my favourite snacks are still verboten due to potassium :(

hot take rust floats should be called f23e8 and f52e11 instead of f32 and f64

health, positive...? sort of?

Judging from said doctor's puzzled look, they did not expect it either

health, positive...? sort of?

Given that I'm suffering from kidney failure, I absolutely did not expect a doctor to ever tell me "your sodium level is too low, you should eat more salty things"

"COVID is not a cold, it's a car accident. It spreads throughout the body, impacting many different organ systems... It's not unusual to get into a car accident and be just fine, but a lifestyle that involves getting into a car accident once a year comes with a reduced life expectancy." @erou I feel similarly (I've often run into the exact same problem that @aral has), though over the years I've learned to reframe that slightly: you'll always have people disagree about your communication strategy, but whether this matters depends entirely on *who* the people are that disagree.

For me that means that if some random techbro disagrees, it doesn't matter to me; but if other marginalized folks disagree, I should probably be paying attention.

I'm about to finish an audit of 42 webcomponents. The devs did a great job because pretty much none of them had detectable issues in axe. Still, only 8 of these 42 components have no critical issues. I only discovered those bugs through manual testing.

Long story short: automatic accessibility testing is only the first step. Manual testing is a must. Also, hire an accessibility expert if possible.

hospital tech

Found a bug in the hospital check-in system; checked in for one appointment and it apparently also automatically checked me in for a *different* appointment later in the day at the same location (this is not supposed to happen), so I was having my lunch break while the people there were wondering why I was nowhere to be found despite 'checking in early'

Getting #GodotEngine oiled up to the state it is now, where development speed is so incredibly fast and there is such good harmony with foundation, contributions and community took many many, _many_ years of refining processes for development, contribution, release management, moderation, etc.

I will do a talk about it at GodotCon in a week explaining parts of this process!

Pressing the fork button takes a second. Learning to do what we do takes a tiny bit more 😞.

@rtn@chaos.social I'm consulting others who know more about this than me 🙂

So you know how I made a demo at @demoparty_no for a monitor that got damaged in transit in a bag pocket without adequate protection, causing it to produce interesting glitchy colours?

Well, it appears I put the certificate for it in a bag pocket without adequate protection, and… yeah.

My favorite kind of Linux feature is the kind where the documentation says "todo: document <really important thing that's critical to most modern systems>" and then "Last updated: october 12, 2014

@rallias (As there seem to be many ways to do virtual network devices, for example)

@rallias Do you happen to know which non-Docker tools and/or options this would (broadly) correspond to?

I came out as trans very late, in my late forties, and for various reasons have not medically transitioned. Yet I think about it a lot. I am tall (183 cm) have really broad shoulders, and basically have the kind of body cisgender dudes and maybe trans masc guys consider ideal. I am nearly sixty, but thinking about HRT, facial feminization surgery, and top surgery. So this is a question for trans women who start medically transitioning in their sixties (or later!). How has it been, and is it worth it? I would be grateful if you could share your experiences with me. Also feel free to respond if you are a trans woman 60 or older who has not medically transitioned and have thoughts on the subject. #transgender #hrt #trans

@rune So funnily, I've also been looking at Docker/Kubernetes docs to see if I can find any crumbs there to point me in the right direction, but everything is very Branded(tm) and I am having difficulty figuring out what it actually does under the hood...

This feels like an ops nightmare to be honest

It's annoyingly difficult to find good, comprehensive resources about container network security...

Frankie Bontemps, a second generation Chagossian in the UK, told the BBC that he felt “betrayed” and “angry” at the news because “Chagossians have never been involved” in the negotiations.

“We remain powerless and voiceless in determining our own future and the future of our homeland”, he said, and called for the full inclusion of Chagossians in drafting the treaty.

We absolutely need more games that let players play as *creatures*.
Monstrosities, abominations, critters, elder gods, entities, the whole thing.
