@jonny I remember reading something about a fedi instance that would spend most of its time with no federation, but would every so often "dock" with a random instance out there, federate for a little while, and then pick up and "leave" again.
If I remember right it was a mildly shitposty concept that never actually got implemented, but there is a charm to it.
You know what I dont even care about a browser fully implementing web standards. Whoever makes a browser that animates every website at like 5% speed with little guys running out into the internet to go bring back the pictures and stuff them into place, little goblins that push the page elements around to animate them, and you adblock by Mario stomping the tracking demons as they try and steal your clicks and stuff... I will use that browser no matter how completely busted it is
@rail_ I'm reminded of the way AliExpress handles order update e-mails.
Your order was received. Your order was paid. Your order was processed. Your order is being shipped. Your order is in transit. Your order has crossed the border. Your order has arrived in your country. Your order is at your local distribution center. Your order is being delivered. Your order has been delivered. Did you like your order? You might also like this. You might also like that. *inbox collapses under the weight of AliExpress e-mails*
"I want you to imagine someone for me. Her name is Jessica and she is 17 years old...."
For years, "A Story About Jessica" (a computer security parable @SwiftOnSecurity wrote, published on their Tumblr in 2014) was pretty hard to find.
Per the CC BY license, I've now republished it so it's easier to discover and reference.

@geraineon I've never had to deal with them but I appreciate it when people do this for companies being persistently shitty :)
@zkat AIUI the idea is that the system-wide validation is meant to arise emergently from all clients individually applying the same set of validation rules (which may themselves be informed by state from that same CRDT, recursively, though that's trickier to get right in a way that reliably converges). Don't know if there's a better or more general answer.
@schratze (Can also be used more strongly to imply that you're not going to allow it)
@schratze "hold on a second", but more informal, perhaps more like "hol' up there"
CW-boost: hamas, caps, assassination
@scanlime I bet that's gonna be Palantir or some shit
Today's video is all about shitposting! What's the difference between a shitpost and misinformation? What do researchers have to say about shitposting? Is shitposting just for fascists, or can the Left play, too? And finally, DID JD Vance fuck a couch? https://skepchick.org/2024/07/jd-vance-the-couch-the-ethics-of-sposting/
In the process of moving to @joepie91. This account will stay active for the foreseeable future! But please also follow the other one.

Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
