tbf if someone from mastodon recognised me I don't think it'd go like this. they'd shyly introduce themselves like "hi I'm Amy at shadowgecko.lizards.space but my username is currently '(massive stack of) French Toast In A Trench Coat'" and we'd stand there for 15 minutes cycling through all the avatars they've had over the past 6 months until I understood who they were

Interesting paper about #adblocking that I just found out 
Energy Conservation with Open Source Ad Blockers
This study, although preliminary, clearly showed enormous potential for open source ad blockers to reduce consumer time waiting for Internet ads to load as well as the electricity needed to run their computers (and other electronic technologies) during that time. In addition, the externalities (including premature fatalities) associated with fossil-fuel-based electricity spent using computers by eliminating ads during Internet browsing and video streaming would be reduced.
