Annoyed that a website is doing something custom on right-click?
Did you expect the browser's context menu (Back, Reload, Save Page As, View Source etc.)?

Just hold the ⇧Shift key while clicking and Firefox will show the built-in context menu.

Edit: I had no idea this was such a widely appreciated post. Credit where credit is due: @dveditz told me about this trick a couple of months ago.

The 4D ATLAS is an exploration tool to virtually discover the village and the occupation of Lützerath in 3D and over time. Like Google Earth, but for Lützi :) A collection of more than 40 3D scans (ma

Suggestion: Whenever someone tries the "Reasonable" game on you, demand they change the word to "effective."

"What are reasonable solutions to climate change?"

No, "What are *effective* solutions to climate change?"

"What are reasonable Covid precautions?"

No, "What are *effective* Covid precautions?"

We don't talk about "reasonable" ways to escape from a great white shark or avoid a gasoline tanker that has overturned.

re: abusers in the NixOS community (cont.)

And now I am getting guilt-tripping unsolicited DMs from jonringer, after already having made it abundantly clear to him that his involvement or commentary is not wanted.

These people do not care about boundaries or consent, that much is clear.

re: abusers in the NixOS community (cont.)

I want to emphasize again that the majority of the NixOS community has been great, and it is only a small handful of people who are the problem here.

Like in many other communities, it's a handful of predominantly white dudes who believe that it is their place to involve themselves in everything, simply because they have decided so.

But they *are* a significant problem, responsible for quite a lot of burnout and people leaving the community already, and so far there has been no effective action to make this stop. That needs to change.

Additional links for those wanting to read up more on what happened:

abusers in the NixOS community (cont.)

Can't immediately find my earlier post about this, but hereby an update on the abusive folks in the community. Time to start naming some names - maybe that will get some actual changes going. :boost_ok:

One of the consistently abusive folks, blaggacao, has been banned from NixOS spaces, at least for now, after concern-trolling on moderation matters.

tomberek, who deliberately violated my boundaries about a week ago by running a non-consensual experiment on my emotional state, and caused an anxiety attack at 4am in the process (the consequences of which I'm still dealing with today - I have barely slept since), remains untouched. I have yet to receive even an acknowledgment from him that he did anything wrong, let alone any sort of apologies or attempt to repair harm.

jonringer, another community member with a very problematic history (among other things, concern-trolling the mention of 'fascism' and 'bigotry' in RFC 98, a code-of-conduct RFC), just decided to dig up the incident thread and tell me that I should "just ignore" the abuse from tomberek instead of "attacking" him for his "viewpoints" - despite repeated comments in the thread (from moderators and me) that the thread should be considered locked.

The “JAMA Article” going around about a “new study” on regret rates for trans people is not what people are claiming.

It’s in “JAMA Surgery” which is not the same as “JAMA” although made by the same people.

Nor is it new research. It’s a viewpoint article, which is clearly defined as an opinion article. It *does* cite research and is scholarly, but it’s not saying anything new.

Here’s JAMA Network’s description of this type of article:

Fuck so-called "parents' rights". Children are not property. Let's talk about children's rights. Let's talk about youth rights.

Do y'all even have a clue how hard it is for a minor to get emancipated?

I think the reason I'm okay with the rough edges of , is that problems have a start and an end; things break in deterministic ways, so they feel debuggable and solvable, rather than just being subject to luck of the draw

If like me, you were a child of the '90s, you might remember "ReBoot" – a pioneering 3D animated kids series created by Vancouver's own Mainframe Entertainment.

These documentarians have gotten a hold of the original, uncompressed digital masters. The problem is, they're in the D-1 format.

If anyone in the #retrotech community has access to a Bosch BTS D1, or a comparable D1 player/decoder, I urge you to reach out to @ReBootReWind (on Twitter) to help preserve #ReBoot!

There honestly aren't enough transmasc memes floating around. All the trans\* memes I end up seeing are for transgirls.

re: free uuid if you need one for anything

@Dee Hey, how did you find out my favourite UUID?

A pal sent me this about wikipedia (tl;dr wikipedia is systematically sexist and virulently racist)

Maybe give the money you were gonna donate to them to Palestinian folks or other Indigenous/Black or colonized people. Or maybe spread the info around by grumping to friends and fam, I feel like a lot of people don't know this?

Disturbingly little software passes this test
