abusers in the NixOS community (cont.)

Can't immediately find my earlier post about this, but hereby an update on the abusive folks in the community. Time to start naming some names - maybe that will get some actual changes going. :boost_ok:

One of the consistently abusive folks, blaggacao, has been banned from NixOS spaces, at least for now, after concern-trolling on moderation matters.

tomberek, who deliberately violated my boundaries about a week ago by running a non-consensual experiment on my emotional state, and caused an anxiety attack at 4am in the process (the consequences of which I'm still dealing with today - I have barely slept since), remains untouched. I have yet to receive even an acknowledgment from him that he did anything wrong, let alone any sort of apologies or attempt to repair harm.

jonringer, another community member with a very problematic history (among other things, concern-trolling the mention of 'fascism' and 'bigotry' in RFC 98, a code-of-conduct RFC), just decided to dig up the incident thread and tell me that I should "just ignore" the abuse from tomberek instead of "attacking" him for his "viewpoints" - despite repeated comments in the thread (from moderators and me) that the thread should be considered locked.

Additional links for those wanting to read up more on what happened:

github.com/NixOS/rfcs/pull/98 (RFC 98, which is a pretty good display of what happens when you try to suggest fixing community moderation issues)
matrix.to/#/!VyoUhyWvlhSpFWWxH (do not interact with thread - this is the more recent incident with tomberek)

re: abusers in the NixOS community (cont.)

I want to emphasize again that the majority of the NixOS community has been great, and it is only a small handful of people who are the problem here.

Like in many other communities, it's a handful of predominantly white dudes who believe that it is their place to involve themselves in everything, simply because they have decided so.

But they *are* a significant problem, responsible for quite a lot of burnout and people leaving the community already, and so far there has been no effective action to make this stop. That needs to change.

This was my original post on this topic: social.pixie.town/@joepie91/11

And now I am getting guilt-tripping unsolicited DMs from jonringer, after already having made it abundantly clear to him that his involvement or commentary is not wanted.

These people do not care about boundaries or consent, that much is clear.
