@hazelnot Huh, interesting. As 'falling asleep' seems to be a problem for a looooot of ND folks.
Hot take: So, #AmateurRadio is cool and all, but by having an easily accessible public registry containing names and addresses linked to call signs, it remains mostly off limits to folks who have legitimate concerns about stalkers, swatting, and violence.
I've thought about getting into it multiple times and keep being reminded that I need to agree to publicly dox myself to do it.
@hazelnot Instantly falling asleep seems to be one of those NT things...
@f0x Do federation fully or not at all
long, hosting
@aussocialadmin Would definitely recommend dropping by on a forum like LowEndSpirit; often there will be people there with whole racks that are happy to sublease one or a few slots, especially if it's non-commercial/community-oriented in nature.
Usually if you try to colo directly with one of the Big Names, they'll charge you almost as much for 1U as they would for a whole rack, and it becomes even more uneconomical.
That having been said, make sure you know what you're in for with colo - unlike with rented dedicated servers, there's no free hardware replacements, power is billed separately, and you'll generally have to pay by the hour for a datacenter tech to carry out maintenance for you. This is something that bites a lot of people unfortunately.
The hosting market in AU is a bit weird so this *may* not apply there, but in most places, colo doesn't really make financial sense unless you need either exceptionally large or highly specialized servers.
Adding something on sport and disability:
Don't ever force any disabled folk to practice any sport!
It really depends on each one of us. Even if we share the same disabilities as someone who can, we all live our chronic illnesses differently.
Sport can cause more harm, develop worse chronic pain...
A disabled person practicing a sport isn't better than one who doesn't.
Being able to practice a sport doesn't erase our disabilities either.
It's really important to keep all this in mind!
Is there a hashtag for people who've experienced tech layoffs to connect with each other, share resources, commiserate, etc? And for community to support?
Could also be used to share opportunities, like job openings, or people who want to form coops together, or people who want to organize against future layoffs.
If there's nothing yet...maybe #LayoffSolidarity or #StandUpToLayoffs or #LayoffSupport or #TechSupport or #TechSupporters idk I'm spitballing.
Just want to connect&help. <3
@flowers@kolektiva.social Did you know: the claims that personalized ads work better originate entirely from the personalized advertising platforms, nobody can replicate them, and in fact those who have tried often find that *contextual* ads perform better
Turns out the whole marketing industry is (again) a scam 🙃
@ilmari@treehouse.systems @halfy Yeah, that's more or less the situation here in Rosmalen. There are a couple of shopping/amenity areas, but there's definitely a singular 'central' one, and the concept of a "centrum" is well-embedded into Dutch language (and planning) as well
@halfy Hm. Maybe a regional difference? In the place where I live, there would definitely be a clear answer to that.
@whreq Ik ben benieuwd of ze hier weer op de valreep bezorgd gaan worden, zoals vorige keer.
so uhm thank you to those of you using CWs. it’s a hell of a thing being expected to just carry on at work like everything is normal while news is happening.
it was my least favourite thing about twitter, no matter where in the world it was, whether i could actually do anything about it, i had to know about this awful thing that happened to trans people, every day. so thank you to those making an effort to not turn this place into a daily nightmare
@Hodate Maybe 'neuronormative' would be a better term...
In the process of moving to @joepie91. This account will stay active for the foreseeable future! But please also follow the other one.

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
