it's a brilliant move.
no one can criticize the problems with your software if it never fucking runs

Had a bunch of emails with the admin, who didn't realise that 'limits' are local and were wondering why they were being accused of hosting bigotry - they had limited the user to give them a chance to migrate but hadn't deleted the offending posts 'cause they thought nobody would be able to see the user.
Anyway, since they *have* now removed the user and I haven't seen anything else problematic, we've lifted the suspend to silence.
Finally got around to publishing my HDD rack design!

Let's do a #NixOS Q&A thread! Ask me anything conceptual about Nix, NixOS, or related tools, and I'll answer honestly and to the best of my ability (including if the answer is that it's not a suitable tool yet!)
Please don't ask specific "how do I fix ____" questions, though - those require too much energy and back-and-forth for me to answer right now, and are probably best asked in the support room on Matrix instead.
Anything about the concept, the governance, whether certain problems are already solved, etc. is fine though! Particularly the kind of questions that are difficult to find a coherent answer to by yourself.
My perspective is that of someone who has been using NixOS for a long time, and is somewhat adjacent to governance, but who holds no formal position in any of it. I'm enthusiastic about where NixOS can go, but also critical of where it is today.
(And if your question is about what utility function to use, it's probably in this chart that I made: https://nix-cheatsheet.pixie.homes/)
@fedizine@kolektiva.social @AtlantaAntifa@kolektiva.social (On which note, I'd be happy to provide help with setting up such a thing. I can't commit to *maintaining* such a service for ADHD reasons, but I *can* help out with figuring out how to get stuff set up, finding a suitable hosting provider, etc.)
@fedizine@kolektiva.social @AtlantaAntifa@kolektiva.social 100% agree with this.
I would also suggest that setting up a wiki of some sort may be useful to this end - this would allow contributions by many people (as one would have on eg. Twitter), but with an audit trail for edits, and the possibility to lock certain pages to known-good users if need be.
The way I see it, the only thing to gain by continued empowerment and uplifting of the wealthy elite are future failed empires -- while we have everything to gain by empowerment and uplifting of the oppressed and marginalized.
If this isn't enough to radicalize the non-disadvantaged, consider the divergence between you and billionaires. You are also a threatened minority. We're all in this together, whether you're mildly privileged or not.

Masto Admin Tip:
Extend your team Before it becomes a problem, before you burn out.
Have a reliable team you trust, and keep extending it.
Who is engaged in your community? Do they want to work with you to preserve that community?
Keep documents of how you enforce your policies, review them every time a new person jobs (write them together as a team with all mods first time you make the documents).
I should write a whole blog /article about this
@marleenstikker Hmm. Waar haalt Libris zelf dan hun geld precies vandaan, voor de overkoepelende organisatie? Ik kan helaas weinig vinden over hun organisatiestructuur, en het lijkt wel als zelfstandig bedrijf te fungeren...
In Finland skiing is still a popular winter sport. It is however expensive, so not a hobby for us poors. It also demans a level of able-bodiedness not nearly everyone has.
Many cities close the local outdoor areas from all but skiers during the snowy months. However in the forest areas outside these maintained paths the people themselves manage to create inclusive paths for everyone without any supervision. Barriers are built on the systemic level. #SocialistSunday #solidarity
Draw a line between them and us. It's a lot harder to fix the problem unless it's separated and addressed, and no individual trying to live their lives with climate anxiety should be taking the blame for things that corporations and governments do. It's us vs them. Always has been. Thinking otherwise plays into their narrative and agenda.

Unsolicited scraping of domain blocks. Potentially ryona or KF, but may also be some other fuck scraping domain blocks. Spoofs its user agent as being Firefox on Windows. IP is in a server farm by FranTech Solutions, so not a desktop.
My evidence: It just ate 5111014300 bytes of shit before closing the connection.
@valkyrie Alt text: picture of something in space with the caption:
"It's wild that we can see images like this from NASA's Webb Telescope - galaxies hundreds of millions of light years away, stars being born & dying - and yet carry on ravaging the planet as if it's not miraculous that somehow, we're here.
A tiny speck of sand in the vastness of the cosmos. #space"
Your regular reminder that #MachineLearning models (or #AI, if you insist on ignoring the meaning of 'intelligence') will repeat and reinforce any #bias that already exists in society.
In the process of moving to @joepie91. This account will stay active for the foreseeable future! But please also follow the other one.

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
