A light bulb moment for me was realizing that much of the talk about student "motivation" (how to boost it or why a given kid lacks it) is really code for talking about compliance - that is, the extent to which students do whatever we tell them.

Although I've been dealing with everything admin as usual (or rather, going to act on a report to find that esther has already done so, she's fast that one) it is helpful for me and my instance dwellers to know there is someone else there, to pick up the slack.
I am after all, a community organiser, the community still exists if I can't get out of bed and it is still important that community is attended to.
