@velexiraptor I like the idea of Tranta Claus bringing this stuff to trans kids who haven’t realized yet, their parents in a harry-potter-ep-1-esque terror at the pill bottles and dresses flying down the chimney every year; after a few years, the kid figuring it out and living their right puberty the first time through, :blobcatsadreach:

@candle @wigglytuffitout yeah but you can't do that when it's on a different page either

re: Discord outage post-mortem, comms meta

@eryn @trysdyn @jonw@hackers.town would you mind elaborating on "Matrix is nowhere near being a solution"?
I use it as my primary communication platform (with my own server) and already much prefer it over IRC. Although the clients are lacking it's still been a *much* better experience than XMPP for me

@wigglytuffitout I actually really like infinite scrolling, so here are some things that make it good:

add landmarks in your URL, as you pass a section, so reloading the page will get you to (roughly) the same position

only load what is in view (+ a bit of buffer on both sides). The rest of your scroll elements can be replaced with empty divs to fill the scroll height while keeping performance up

@clipsey as someone who has never read the original works, and having heard this before I came across
salon.com/2014/09/11/its_ok_to
and those quotes from his work... terrible.
I wanted to link something about it on the site and this seems like a good article for that

aa I need a name for my new server, possibly related to the Cthulhu mythos (reason why will become apparent soon(tm))
R'lyeh woulda been cool but doesn't work for a hostname

One of my goose stickers was put to good use over at the Hackalot hackerspace :P

@queeranarchism it's definitely possible, you can go to the profile of domein someone on .social, click the 3 dots and it'll have an option to "mute everything from m.s"

fucking hell domain names are a scam I saw ectopla.sm on on @domainhacker but there's only 4 registers that sell .sm and it starts at 140$ a year

@jeffnik It's not mine, we bought it for the hackerspace. It's a Graphtec CE6000-60 Plus. Awesome machine for a hackerspace but a bit too expensive for home use (~1600 euros)

@haskal any EU tech events you'll be attending? (Or I can mail stuff)

@clipsey I see a lot of failed requests, process is still up tho 🤔 I'll restart

and here's my new lamp, which I'll probably convert to RGB, or even RGB + warm white, cold white, amber, for the ultimate range of colours and temperatures
