I love the way I accomplished that. The gradient is semi-transparent, with a background-color behind it that changes to a lighter one on hover :O

a lot of the debate around defederating seems to place a weirdly sacrosanct value in global, complete federation, and that seems a bit silly tbh. Defederation still allows interaction for individuals, but also there's nothing special or magical about global federation that makes it more worthy of protection that the people being protected by defederation.
