re: :boosts_ok_gay:Help with Linux Screenreaders

@gcrkrause yeah, TalkBack works quite well. On linux though.. currently nothing really works. odilia.app/ is definitely worth keeping an eye on, but not really usable yet

purchasing something called "knotting solution" from the hardware store and once again regretting the day i ever went online

The current level of academic discourse on LLM's

Anyway I brought this up at the LLM discussion group at an academic conference this week:

time.com/6247678/openai-chatgp

(tl;dr—Kenyan workers are being paid exploitative-level wages to manually filter out the worst stuff from the internet and this is necessary for how LLM's work)

And in that hour, only one person even addressed the issue, and their take was ~ "colonial exploitation is good, actually" and everyone just sorta nodded their heads

lewd?

@doot@glitterkitten.co.uk oh lmao, i assumed the typo domain would've been fuck.rodeo

@dantescanline @tobi The lightbox isn't new, but did unfortunately discover it's implementation really sucks accessibility wise, so i'm on the hunt for a better library :")

@weirdwriter @tobi even that didn't work. I wonder though, isn't this also an issue on Mastodon, where images attached to toots also have duplicate alt and title attributes with the media description?

Guess the only right approach will be a better mechanism to show alt text on media and custom emoji, that doesn't use title at all. Something to ponder about

@weirdwriter @tobi ugh, seems the title attribute is just a mess in general, with wildly varying and incompatible implementations...
I wonder if adding an explicit aria label to the image element would override the alt and title mess, but could just make it worse as well

@weirdwriter @tobi the pausing might actually be due to the shortcode's colons being included in the alt attribute, we should probably strip that so they read more naturally

@weirdwriter @tobi huh, I wonder what NVDA is doing there, could it be weird because it has both a title, and an alt attribute with the custom emoji name?

With TalkBack it reads fine as "coffee pot, graphic". They're currently just image elements in-line with the rest of the text, nothing special, so quite odd.

Will look at the headings, easy enough to change the element as I can style them visually to be the same as they are now
