they seem reasonably distinguishable with all forms of color loss, but since they're the same relative lightness, in grayscale you can't

@schratze usually messing with the configuration in pavucontrol does the trick for me
@protodrew@merveilles.town yeah I looked at it too, it seems interesting, but just not usable yet. The GUI framework it uses also makes for weird rendering, and everything just seems quite unpolished
