and like on the content formatting
gemtext (gemini text) is wayyyy too minimal for literally anything and it actually sucks
sure it's easy to implement support for, but it lacks a couple important screen reader annotations, and in general sucks more than like, web 1.0 style html even
the thing is plain subsets of html are fine for rich text formatting. that's like, what it's for
matrix basically does this and clients can implement support for message formatting on web, mobile, and desktop. and like, at this point matrix formatting is more of an interoperability standard than gemini text will ever be. just as an example

i have gripes about http the protocol, but it's pretty minor compared to like, the _content_ on the Modern Web
the problem is not http, the problem is that capitalism drives overpaid techbros to invent new ways to create websites every 6 months, each time using 15% more RAM
http in isolation is mostly fine. there are a lot of implementation edge cases that i don't like but it's by far not the biggest problem with the web

and that's the main reason i think gemini is kind of silly

just a deeply unsatisfying day today tbh, let's hope tomorrow is better

@ckie my sister is visiting for the weekend and brought her cta so they can meet

@elilla @zotan I've been running one on stream.pixie.town for a while now on a small vps, runs well with a few viewers but i don't really stream (anymore)

@elilla Owncast (self-hosted streaming platform) has a really nice directory, where you can see who is live across different instances. It gives a great browsable overview of categories just like Twitch, but everyone is still in charge of their own stream directory.owncast.online/

yesterday someone joked i would be leaving the team amd someone else reacted very shocked so that was wholesome :3
