uspol, organizing

just a reminder yall, you don't have to be a gunner to be a fighter. every soldier has someone who feeds them. someone who heals their wounds. someone who helps with organization and communications. someone who finances their cause and gathers resources and information. someone who inspires others to join them, with art and propaganda.

we all can help each other, even those who aren't bruisers and brawlers.

For everyone belatedly realizing that GitHub and GitLab are Problematic: there are alternatives!

Gitea is 1) commercial and 2) based in the US, which I know many people are looking to avoid.

@Codeberg (codeberg.org) is a public server running Forgejo, which began as a Gitea fork: forgejo.org/compare-to-gitea/ It's where I have most of my stuff.

A few more public Forgejo servers: codeberg.org/forgejo-contrib/d

There's also the venerable Sourcehut, whose UI makes me break into hives: sourcehut.org/

Want to self-host? @yunohost is dead easy to set up and has Gogs, Gitea, Forgejo, and GitLab apps: apps.yunohost.org/catalog?sear

OK with Gitea/GitLab servers outside the US? @Framasoft has a public GitLab server. For cheap independent hosting, PikaPods has Gitea: pikapods.com/

There are SO many options if you are willing to give up the "everyone on the planet uses the same public Git server" model.

It's March 10-- Mar10-- and you know what that means; it's Great Giana Sisters day! Break out the C64s (Amigas, Ataris ST, etc. are acceptable as well)

I really want people to frame these conversations as reasons to do a thing rather than not.

People in the fedi are exceptionally good at identifying challenges, but always frame it as reason to give up.

If we can see the problems, we know what to fix.

Do not let corporate methodology define the future. The internet began as a weird little project bolstered by people who became obsessed with a small thing.

If you dislike the state of Firefox, please recognize that part of the way it got there was by becoming dependent on the gravy train from Google.

It will still be years before it’s usable, but one thing you could consider is to help fund servo.org — it’s a fully independent rendering engine with some really great next-generation tech that is going to make the web a more secure, and a very large % of its contributor base comes from a worker cooperative’s members who happen to be some of the finest minds in browser technology.

The project is flourishing, and you can help it continue to chug along and even accelerate. There’s no telling if it’ll definitely become a full alternative to the current triad of chrome/safari/firefox, but we won’t find out if we don’t try. The future is what we make it.

The main street of Bowmanville, Ontario is going to be blocked off all week because of a fire. The businesses are open, but no cars can drive through. If you live nearby, this might be a good time to do some local shopping! The mayor has announced temporary free parking.

You skate, shoot paint and do graffiti while listening to Arabic electronic music and liberating your land from settlers scum.

Just had some non-fun following up on Niels' post ( bsd.network/@niels/11410653821 ) about weird requests after upgrading to #Nextcloud 31.0.0.

TLDR: NC 31.0.0 seems to share user data by unclear-maybe-default for federated sharing (public access?). May include sensitive PII (Phone, Email, Address) based on settings.

To prevent this, set Admin Settings > Sharing > Federated Cloud Sharing > Allow people to publish their data to a global and public address book to off
