if i ever see any of you in public, the code is "i like your shoelaces"

that way we know we're from mastodon without revealing anything

im just going to say this to strangers until i find a mastodon person

boosts != endorsements is such a weak cop-out tbh

Oh Blizzard made an announcement.

The announcement is not important. What is important is, yet again, the timing is deliberate. This time Facebook execs are being accused of taking favors to try to squash news coverage of Blizzard.

Every. Announcement. Hides. A. Scandal.

Hoping everyone fleeing from Twitter can find the community they want here, and that it can be a bit safer from the rot of capitalism for them. botsin.space/media/9FSgumIh3mM

Another exodus?

Hello, welcome, Please remember that:
* Masto supports image captioning which not only benefits the blind but also just helps generally because sometimes not everything is obvious.
* Content Warnings are a thing here. No, they're not censorship because you literally just click "Show More".
* Please be mindful of what you post. Carefully consider whether a CW is warranted. Think long and hard about whether your unwarranted advice is justifiable.
* Be gay, do crime.
* Awoo.

Just as a general thang

For those running instances:

It's valid to close registrations during the wave if you don't feel like you have the energy to keep an eye out on the flood of new folks coming in

It's perfectly fine to admit that moderation isn't ready to handle a scaled up community and to hold off the growth surge.

It's fine to make decisions to prioritize the safety and rep of your existing community members and take time to vet the new applicants.

Moderating properly is expensive, in terms of energy. Being aware of who is using your services, and being able and ready to have the energy to remove those acting to harm others is crucial to keep your community, and other communities safe.

And if it's too much, it's entirely valid to admit it's too much and take steps to make things easier. it's better than burning yourself out trying to handle everything.

@AgathaSorceress Basic rule for forms that make no sense is, if in doubt, tell them what you think they want to hear. And if you don’t know what that is, make it as simple and as boring as you can

Good morning, fediverse. moths are good, center life on moth and life will be good

At some point tusky finally fixed its hardcoded character count. Yaaaay

It's hard when most of the other masto clients are freezepeachy trash so you have very little actual alternative

"Planned power outage for the building at 10 PM!"

10:19 PM: power goes out for building
10:20 PM: transformer blows, power goes out for the entirety of downtown

It came back up but lol. lmao.

Tumblr, freed from the corporate world of yahoo/verizon/aol/oath, has embraced their user base as the horny little goblins they are and I fully expect porn to come back if they can get around credit card companies and app stores being prudes

If you haven’t been paying attention, tumblr got sold for pocket change to the Wordpress company, who promptly told the surviving staff “do whatever.” So now they have an ad free subscription, which is good.

then they stole an idea from somethingawful: give them ten American dollars and they will shotgun whatever shitpost you want onto 2500 random people’s dashboards. No targeting or anything, just “congratulations you get “hobbit love” or whatever that post about infinite chocolate.

im still thinkin about befriending the moths
