dreams, pleasant this time
I woke up from that exhausted, but I did eventually fall back asleep. that was a better dream, of a more vibrant and idyllic world, my fiancée was visiting and we took a train to an LGBTQ fantasy convention held in an old open mall. We shopped for clothes, she bought a bunch of swords, and we went to look at suitcases to bring them back home in
I rather more like having "we are lesbians and have too many swords to bring home from a con" as the only conflict in my dreams
dreams, horrific
Last night was rough. Dreamt of reality decaying, worm-like creatures sprouting from the seams, constantly fleeing knowing the first green-ringed door to the left would be a gateway to an intact reality, but always someone went through the wrong door and influenced the next reality's decay from outside trying to claw their way back in.
At some point I picked the wrong door, choosing one that was blue instead of green when colour started draining from that reality. Knowing I was lost, I gave the others tools, machines to fight back, to save as many people as possible when the entities from beyond began to break through, but each successive reality got smaller and farther away, until it was but a single house in the last survivor's memory and there were no more green-ringed gateways...
Humble Bundle constantly redefining "Humble"
source post: https://blog.humblebundle.com/2021/04/23/a-note-about-sliders-and-our-bundle-pages/
in case you were unaware: Humble Bundle used to be called the Humble Indie Bundle. it was a bundle of independently developed games, and it was humble because you could pay what you want; choose what portion of the money went to the devs, charity, and Humble; and the games were DRM-free and cross-platform.
after a while, the Indie was dropped from the name as they began to start bundling games from big publishers. the cross-platform and DRM-free requirements were removed. they stopped letting you pay what you want and imposed minimum amounts on their bundles.
now, the last pillar of their definition of Humble is being dropped, as they're going to limit the choice to send a portion of purchases to charity, capping at 15%. before, you could choose to donate the full percentage to charity if you wanted a game but didn't want to support the devs, and that's not allowed now.
they're trying to spin this as improving donations to charity, but it's just a cap. and another reminder -- Humble Bundle is owned by IGN now.

food (not vegan), rotten
Today's dinner was something of a disaster but a recoverable one.
so I thought my potatoes had gone bad early and I wouldn't be able to make my usual pork curry! No, just some of them, I was able to salvage more of them.
Problem was, I discovered after cutting into my last onion that it had DEFINITELY gone capital-B Bad.
Problem was I had already trimmed and sliced the pork by that point, so I decided to just... render the fat in my instant pot instead and make the last of my macaroni and cheese. Decided at the same time to the meaty tips from cutting up the fat into a pan with some oil, water, and salt to cook that into bacon bits and add that to my dinner to make it a little more substantial. wheee
Not looking forward to taking the compost out though...
George Floyd trial adjacent, +
I'm really impressed at this.
The medical examiner who said the murderous cop didn't do a murder has been found to be SO wrong that the state of Maryland is going to review all in-custody death reports that happened while he worked for them. This includes Freddie Gray and other Black men who died struggling with police.
This is one way we start to deal with systemic issues. Once people tell you who they are, go back and check shit out!
Just got turned on to this, and oh my gosh am I excited:

It's a collection of fonts, themes, keyboards and caps you can use to code while being cute as hell. (Fantasque Sans Mono even has liiiigatures!)
fucking with police tech
Ok, so cops have this tool called Cellbrite they use to automate collecting data off of cell phones that they physically posses and are unlocked.
Turns out, Cellbrite has shite security, which means that you can drop an otherwise-inert file somewhere in your phone's system that, if scanned, will inject itself and allow arbitrary code execution on their Cellbrite device. I.E, you can make their hardware do literally anything you want, including compromising any data the device collects.
And in what they describe as unrelated news, Signal will start occasionally and randomly stashing some inert files in installations on established accounts.
