Once at Christmas time, the laird had promised his guests good hunting. He paid a local woman, Nancy Scott, sixpence for the location of a rare white hare.

But when the party gave chase, the hare led them a merry dance, finally escaping the jaws of a hound straight into Nancy's cottage.

On entering, the laird found Nancy out of breath, nursing a bleeding heel, but no hare to be seen.

the best parts of american culture are formed primarily by indigenous and black peoples. so i'd like to share, on this so called black friday, the story of Monk Montgomery. this incredible artist was a true pioneer. a skilled hand on the double bass, he was one of the first bass players to adopt the new electric models when Lionel Hampton handed him a fender precision bass guitar. he was the first electric bassist ever recorded (Mau Mau by the Art Farmer Septet, available for online listening). he made his own felt plectrums, maybe the first to use plectrums on bass at all tho i don't know for sure, and he was the first to play lead bass in his solo albums, about 6 years before Jaco Pastorius popularized the form. Monk Montgomery deserves to be remembered. and i recommend checking out his album "Reality"! it's beautiful.
